4 Storylines from the new 6A Districts

The Freshman Showcase, September 5th   <a href="https://events.prephoops.com/e/2374/register/the-expo-oklahoma">The Oklahoma Expo (2027, 2028 and 2029 prospects), September 13th </a>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">District 1 </h2>   Edmond Deer Creek   Edmond Santa Fe   Enid   Moore   Northwest Classen   Owasso   Piedmont   Putnam City North     Is Santa Fe vs Putnam City North a rivalry?   The two 405 schools have once again drawn each other in their District. Leading to the expectations that they will jockey for the title again. Their two regular season match ups produced two of last year's best finishes with Putnam City North winning both via last second heroics. When the schedule is released, the two matches up will be two "circle the calendar" games. But for the rivalry to really take off, it will require for Santa Fe to successful punch back and win one. If not both. It will be a tall task against a Putnam City North roster filled with top guards and the addition of senior swing man [player_tooltip player_id='2352732' first='TJ' last='Williams']. Santa Fe meanwhile has an outstanding group of juniors and sophomores, allowing them to throw waves of pressure and speed at opponents. But in this growing rivalry, the Panthers will likely have the edge of "best player on the court" with junior [player_tooltip player_id='2509295' first='Keaton' last='Murry'].   Breakout Prospect   [player_tooltip player_id='3138018' first='Jeremiah' last='Millhouse'], 6'2 Sophomore Guard, Piedmont   Outside the top two in District 1, there's intriguing rosters. Including Piedmont, fresh off their first State Tournament appearance at the 6A level. While they graduated a few key players, they have one of the state's top rising sophomores. Millhouse showed his high ceiling with strong moments as a freshman. Now there will be more of a challenge for the sophomore and his skilled scoring game to become a primary option for the Wildcats.     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">District 2</h2>   Capitol Hill   Choctaw   Edmond North   Lawton Eisenhower   Mustang   Norman   Stillwater   Yukon     State Title Rematch   March brought a State Title to remember with Norman's last second heroics putting an exclamation point on epic win. Considering how Class 6A was viewed for much of the year, it was a bit of a shocker. Which surely adds to the fuel for a Mustang team stacked with returning talent. Mustang will once again be one of the highest scoring teams in the state. They have one of the deepest rosters, filled with the speed and athleticism to turn games into track meets. And provide quite the highlight reel for social media. Junior Garrett Smith is the perfect mix of athleticism and motor. For Norman to stand up to that talent, they will lean on their state title hero, Aidan Cooper-Kelley scored the game winner in March, and it likely will only be the start of the many clutch moments. His experience and overall savviness as a scorer will be crucial for Norman to weather the challenge of playing as defending champs.     Breakout Prospect   [player_tooltip player_id='2872146' first='Braelon' last='Robinson'], 6'4 Guard, Norman   For a lot of teams in Oklahoma, Robinson likely would've seen more run as a freshman. Instead, the guard got a close up look at how to win a State Title. He's an athletic prospect with quite the upside to be a mismatch problem. For Norman's sake as they defend the title, hopefully Robinson will start to turn that potential into an inside-outside threat. Hopefully sooner, rather than later.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">District 3</h2>   Bartlesville   Bixby   Booker T Washington   Jenks   Ponca City   Putnam City West   Sand Springs   Union     Backyard errr Backcourt Brawl for the Title?   Jenks vs Union is most well known for their football rivalry, but they might need pads at the UMAC and the Frank this winter. An early guess would put the two programs as the chief contenders for this district title. Union has been a stalwart on the east side, and they return outstanding senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2327102' first='Dkarrion' last='Titsworth']. Along with fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='2389458' first='Caleb' last='King'], they have a gritty core. Which be crucially in giving high upside sophomores forwards Nate Pierce and Savian McAllister experience to lean on. Jenks is boosted by senior Nate Lyon, one of the best shooters in the state. Along with being a spot up threat, the Arkansas State commit has a bag of moves to be dangerous off the dribble. For Lyon and the Trojans to reach State for the first time since 2022, they'll need consistency from high upside wing-forward junior Aiden Bezenah. A player who when locked in, can be an one man wrecking crew on both ends of the floor.     Breakout Prospect   Marquis Alexander, junior, Booker T Washington   Quick lead guard, who turned heads during June camps and leagues. He has big shoes to step into as a lead ballhandler, but his emergence will be key for Booker T Washington to thrive as they make the jump back to Class 6A.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">District 4</h2>   Broken Arrow   Edmond Memorial   Muskogee   Norman North   Putnam City   Southmoore   US Grant   Westmoore     Is this the most balanced district?   The headliner is Southmoore with arguably the best player in the state ([player_tooltip player_id='2140800' first='Tyson' last='Pogi']), along with a talented cast and crew supporting him. Last season they won a buzzer beater in the consolatuion bracket of Area to reach state. But based on June they should be punching their ticket through the front door. First up will be clinching a district title, but their path to a potential District title won't be a cake walk. There's questions around quite a few of the teams in the district, but it also gives a lot of teams untapped upside.   Broken Arrow is the most obvious contender. Over the last decade, the Tigers have established themselves as one of the most consistent 6A teams on the east side. And they have top end talent with senior [player_tooltip player_id='2327117' first='Gene' last='Mason'] and new sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2627781' first='Kaimen' last='Robinson'] to challenge Southmoore. A late summer coaching change makes Norman North a wildcard that could be undervalued with a mix of returning talent and newcomers. Westmoore had a rough 2025-26 but broke in quite a few players who should see them be more competitive this year. Shane Cowherd will always find edges for Edmond Memorial.They have intriguing juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2439605' first='Josh' last='Dockum'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2551881' first='Kaliel' last='McNeely'] as potential level jumpers. Speaking of successful long time coaches, Lenny Bert is in year two at Muskogee with electrifying guard [player_tooltip player_id='2761655' first='Traylin' last='Reed'] and promising youth around him. With quality coaches and emerging talent, this should be the most entertaining district to follow.     Breakout Prospect   [player_tooltip player_id='2431703' first='Brayden' last='Ball'], sophomore, Westmoore   For Westmoore to improve off last season, they will need their youngsters to continue to grow up fast. Enter Ball, a youngster with range from deep. He'll combine with fellow sophomore Masson Wallace to make the Jaguars a feisty foe. If Ball becomes more fluid and quicker in his movements, he could sneakily become one of the more complete scorers in the district.
