Top New Names from 2029 Rankings Update Part 2

Our 2029 rankings update saw 15 players make their debut in our rankings and in this article we'll break down five new prospects who broke into the rankings after strong summer performances.    A second prospect who made the move across the Ohio river from Kentucky, Brown stayed in the greater Cincinnati area and will join a loaded Summit Country Day squad. Brown is a big bodied wing guard who can fill it up as a scorer and exploded for some monster games including a 50-point game for Scott High School against Walton Verona. Brown was a prospect I was already familiar with due to his time with [program_tooltip program_id='2076317' first='Midwest' last='Basketball Club 3SSB'] 15 U and his scoring punch should help a Summit Country Day squad looking to get over the hump after losing in the state semifinal two seasons ago and the state championship last season.     Africentric will have one of the most exciting young teams in the state of Ohio this season as a large majority of their production will come from their 2029 class. A talented group that fills multiple positions, Deloney is the most intriguing of the bunch right now. Deloney had a solid spring for Phenom United 15 U and I caught the Nubians in June at Ohio State's team camp and Deloney stood out with his length, physical tools, quick twitch athleticism, rebounding and interior scoring. A modern forward, Deloney is quick with the ball in his hands and does a nice job of crashing the glass for putbacks. A name to remember in the Columbus City League for the next three seasons.     Cincinnati La Salle should have state title aspirations with a strong core that's got a stud in each grade. Higgins is a shifty off guard who had some big games in June where he lit it up from beyond the arc and used his ball handling ability to create looks for himself and teammates. Getting some quality varsity action as a freshman, I expect Higgins to shoot much better percentage wise from 3-point range as a sophomore than he did last winter. Already finishing with a positive assist/turnover ratio last season, Higgins could see his assist numbers skyrocket as his shot creation should lead to defenses collapsing in on him when the ball is in his hands. The Lancers will be a must-watch team in Cincinnati this season!     GCL South rivals headline this article as Schaefer had a big summer for Nova Village 15 U on the UAA circuit and will be going up against Higgins for the next three seasons at the varsity level. I actually caught Schaefer's biggest game of his freshman season against Brebeuf Jesuit as the Bombers were without a handful of football players who were preparing for the state title game and Schaefer's 12 points were huge in the overtime victory. Schaefer has grown as both a player and literally since that November contest and is filling out his frame to become a main scoring option on the Bombers this winter. It sure will be fun seeing these two talented guards battle it out in huge rivalry games!     Olentangy Orange has a rich tradition at the guard position and Hanna looks like their next star from that position. Hanna displays impressive pace and feel for the game and shoots it at a high level from beyond the arc. On a Pioneers team that lacks experience heading into next season, Hanna could be a primary ball handler and decision maker for one of the top programs in central Ohio. A lot of responsibility for a young guard but Hanna has the poise and offensive skill to keep the Pioneers competitive in the toughest OCC Division in the central Ohio.
