Southwest Indiana June Scholastic Period Standouts Pt. 3

The June Scholastic Period in the state of Indiana is a big time for student athletes to restart with their high school teams and prepare for a new season with new roles. With two NCAA Live Periods, it gave players in Southwest Indiana the chance to play in front of college coaches from all levels. Here is Part 3 of the Southwest Indiana Standouts from the June Scholastic Period:    The leading scorer returns for a Tecumseh team that brings back 100% of production from last season as well as adding two newcomers that will make significant impacts on the varsity. [player_tooltip player_id='2882777' first='Damon' last='Oxley'] has been a staple in the Braves rotation since tournament time of his freshman season, and this upcoming season should be his best season yet. Crafty 6'1” guard has the ultimate green light in the offense and he controls it well. Flirted with triple-double on multiple occasions last season. Does a good job balancing scoring and facilitating. Once he gets going, he's a tough cover for any guard in the area. Relentless driver that finishes well with both hands around the basket. Jump shot is a bit streaky but is comfortable taking off both the catch and the dribble. Really nice playmaker for others and has good instincts defensively as well as a rebounder at the guard spot.     Sharpshooting 6'6” Wing is a soon to be four year varsity contributor for the Titans that could be saving the best for last. Arguably the best shooter in the area showed it all June long in the games he played in after his baseball season ended. Easy offensive game that centers around his shot making ability. Not the quickest or most athletic player at 6'6”, but knows how to put himself in position to score. Smooth shooter with deep range. Comfortable shooting off the catch and off the dribble at his size he's able to rise over smaller defenders. Getting more comfortable with his middle game off the dribble. Really good in the mid-post face up game. Should be one of the top scorers in the area with interest from several Division III schools.     Only got to see [player_tooltip player_id='2140389' first='Jaxon' last='McKain'] twice this June, but in both games he was excellent. At 6'3”, he's a fluid athlete that showed off his versatility on both ends of the floor. Has always been a relentless driver of the basketball with the intent on scoring, but showed an improvement in the perimeter stroke that has been an issue in the past as well as better court vision and playmaking off the bounce reading defenses while not forcing up shots. He's a physical presence on the defensive end with the strength to guard all over the floor. High IQ aggressive defender that always seems to be in the right place at the right times. Plays with active hands in passing lanes while also being the leading returning rebounder for the Pioneers.     An absolute stud in the class of 2029, [player_tooltip player_id='2889976' first='Romyiez' last='Calvin'] had one of the strongest springs of anyone in the state and it carried over into June. A physical 6'6” Wing/Forward that when the motor is running, there isn't many people that can guard him. Relentless getting to the basket. Absorbs contact and plays on balance and off two feet as well as any player I've seen. High level rebounder on both ends of the floor. Continues to improve with his perimeter jumper. He's comfortable catching in the middle at the free throw line and facing up. Has all the tools to be a versatile all around defender, but takes some plays off at that end. When he's engaged, he's capable of impacting the game on both ends of the floor.     Not a player in Southwest Indiana that's stock has risen as much as 6'7” Senior Forward [player_tooltip player_id='2807644' first='Paul' last='Ridgway'] of Sullivan. The skilled inside-out threat has made the game look easy during June scoring at a high clip and with great efficiency. Big time left handed prospect that scores the ball in a variety of different ways. Good size and frame that plays with patience on the block exploiting mismatches on smaller defenders. Excellent cutter off the ball with athleticism that pops and has the ability to play above the rim. Really nice middle game where he can face up and drive closeouts or hit the midrange jumper. Has shown a consistent three-point shot. Effortless release with good range. Has all the tools to be a game changer on the defensive end of the floor. Fluid athlete with his size to guard all five positions at the high school level. Aggressive on the passing lanes looking to turn defensive into offense in a hurry.
