D1 Showcase: 5 Standout Big Men (Lake Washington)

The WIBCA D1 Showcase afforded us some opportunities to see some budding big men in action. We got to take in some of the more established 2027 post prospects, while getting to see the progress being made by a couple standout 2028 big men. Here are five of the standout posts from the action at Lake Washington High School.    Durgan played with much more aggressive approach offensively at the event than we got to see last season. He has good athleticism and strength already but also displayed the ability to make some key passes off his touches in the middle and maintain a dual-threat type of approach. He went right at a few of the top post players at the event and his quick decision-making off the catch played a key role in that. Worked hard on the glass, did a lot of vertical defending in paint, and stepped up in a big way offensively for them throughout the weekend. Had a game-high 18 points against Barlow to lead the team.     The physical post player proved once again, he is too strong and too quick for defenders to allow him any space around the paint. He had some great jabs, then rips baseline or to the middle, to attack the rim, was deadly spinning downhill from the high post, and constantly got into defenders' bodies to create space at the hoop. Had one of the better blocks I saw all weekend on a dunk attempt, and had a few others where he was able to block the shot and corral the ball to hold onto possession. He led them with 19 and 15 points in their two games on Saturday.     One of the top big man prospects I saw over the weekend, Medina has quite the blend of skill and size that netted him his first D-I offer from Montana. He has the ability to play physical, can step out and knock down spot up threes, and made pretty solid decisions out of the post. Showed he is able to make some key passes out of high post to find cutters in give-and-gos and backdoors, and was a constant presence around the rim on both ends.     The junior forward played some solid minutes for the 4-0 Jags. Worked hard on the glass, showcased some quick footwork around the paint to get depth and finish inside, and came up with a couple solid blocks at the rim. Moves pretty well as a post who can defend across the paint, chase down rebounds, and has some potential to expand his offensive game with his touch and quick feet.     The prep big man put in some good work out of the post for the Panthers and was their high-scorer across three games at the event, scoring 12, 12, and 24 points. He did well to keep the ball higher on his moves inside, looked quick to his misses to clean up around the rim, and had a nice short turnaround shot working for him. He'll be a big part of their attack this season and demonstrated his ability to play strong inside and work to the foul line.
