Charlie Hughes Showcase: Kyler’s Player Notes Part 6

There is no better event on the calendar from an evaluation or recruiting standpoint than the annual IBCA/IHSAA Charlie Hughes Showcase. This past weekend, which was a live evaluation period for Division I college coaches, most of the best teams in the state of Indiana will competed at Carmel and Westfield High Schools for an absolutely excellent three days of basketball. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground coverage from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer all weekend long. Here are some of my quick player notes from some guys that caught my attention over the weekend.      Westview is once again going to be one of the best teams in the state this upcoming season and head of the snake for them is without question [player_tooltip player_id='2622228' first='Austin' last='Schlabach']. To put it simple, he was one of the best pure playmakers in the entire gym during Charlie Hughes weekend. Super skilled getting himself paint touches and displayed the ability to dictate the pace of the game at times. Athletic guard that can do everything at a high level.     It isn't Westview unless there is a Yoder out there being productive and the on that stood out to me in the game I watched of theirs this weekend was senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='3684152' first='Pierce' last='Yoder']. This Yoder is a 6'6 prospect that has a real solid inside-out game. Not the strongest or quickest forward on the floor but super skilled and has a smooth shooting stroke. Could be a mismatch problem at times against any team they face this year.     Yeah, the 2030 class looks like it is going to be a very special one and one of the reasons why is Crispus Attucks guard [player_tooltip player_id='2886523' first='Tomarri' last='Patterson']. There were multiple 20230 prospects that had standout weekends and Patterson was certainly one of them. Got a chance to watch him vs Bedford North Lawrence on Sunday and right away was impressed with how physical of a player he is. Just super relentless when attacking the basket and is productive in multiple areas of the floor already.     A lot of eyes will always turn to the senior backcourt of Fishers, but it is worth noting that the Tigers have a hoss down low. [player_tooltip player_id='3666055' first='Max' last='Hopkins'] is entering into sophomore year and is going to play a pivotal role for Fishers this season as the main guy in the frontcourt. He was really good defensively throughout Charlie Hughes while being pretty consistent as a scorer in the low post.     There were a handful of 2028 prospects that had true breakout weekends and one of those players was [player_tooltip player_id='2560351' first='Chandon' last='Gilbert'] of Lawrence North. Gilbert now enters into a junior where it is without question his time to be the top option for unproven Lawrence north team. His jump shot was money all weekend as well as his crafty finishes around the basket. Gilbert is a player you need to keep an eye on moving forward.
