3SSB Palmetto Road Championship – Saturday’s Indiana Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground coverage from the beautiful Rock Hill Sports and Events Center all day long on Saturday at the 3SSB Palmetto Road Championship. We had the chance to see several of our Indiana-based teams, as well as other teams that have Indiana prospects, along with many of the top teams and players from across the country. They came up short in the evening game, but Calvin led the way with 16 points in their quarterfinal win. His versatility as a driver and interior finisher really popped. Calvin is a good athlete and very strong when he is in the paint. They ended up losing 89-79 to a very good Austin Rivers SE Elite 17u team, but King played at a high level in front of a packed sideline of college coaches. Indiana Basketball Club 17u picked up an impressive win over Murray Elite 17u with McCormack leading the way posting a big stat line of 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Normally it is his three-point shot that stretches the defense, but in this one it was his passing ability. The 6'5" rising senior forward that has transferred to Mt. Vernon (Fortville) High School for his senior season dominated the interior finishing with 14 points and 7 rebounds. He had a big month of June with Bishop Chatard and has picked up where he left off here in July with Indiana Basketball Club 17u. The big 6'3"-6'4" guard found success once again as a catch-and-shoot threat, but also utilized his size both as a finisher inside and on the glass. It was a buzzer-beater at the hands of Austin Rivers SE Elite 15u. However, this group was also down three starters and playing with just six players by the evening game. Stoudemire was a consistent standout in both games though nearly willing his team into the championship round. He scored 21 points to go with 8 rebounds in their quarterfinal win and backed it up with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in the semifinals. He went on an offensive flurry late in regulation, ultimately forcing overtime and pulling out the victory, against Team Lillard 17u. Zachary scored on three consecutive possessions via a Spain ballscreen and then finished a tough driving left-handed layup to tie the game at the buzzer.
