15U New Names we're on after Mile High Madness

Every event seems to produce a few players you leave wanting to watch again, and Mile High Madness was no different. These prospects finished the club season on a high note, showing flashes of what's to come while earning their way onto the radar. McArthur is a new name that popped for me as he plays with a level of toughness that's easy to appreciate. He absorbed contact as he drove, finished through bodies, and even kept playing hard despite not getting the whistle. Just got back and continued competing. Those things stand out to me. Defensively, he fought over screens, took on difficult assignments, and stayed engaged, and that happened in multiple games, which lets me know that it'll stick. Offensively, he played within the offense, used ball screens well, and made smart reads. I do want him to embrace a bit more of the lead guard role as it will open up new parts of his game, but his IQ and willingness to adapt let me know that the next time we see him, he'll be able to add to his game.     I especially look for key characteristics in a good guard as I played guard, and Micklich looked every bit of a true point guard. He was able to control pace in games, got his team organized, didn't pick up his dribble, and consistently put teammates in good spots. Opposing teams didn't press for too long as they kept the ball moving, and he was hitting teammates with backdoor passes. His patient stood out in multiple games; he changed speeds and got inside of the paint, and while a lot of it was passes, he started to hit the mid-range pull-up as well. I like a guard who finds that balance and knows when to attack, and we saw that at times throughout the weekend as Jordan was an exciting player to watch. Curious to see if he's able to duplicate that performance, but he's certainly a new name to watch out for.     Dixon was one of the biggest upside players I saw over the weekend, and I am very curious to see how his game evolves. The combination of size and athleticism immediately stood out as he showed flashes of being unstoppable and others where he's trying to fit in. When he recognized a mismatch, he scored with ease. August was sealing guys on the block, had a couple of tough finishes, and was powering through. He also had a couple of dunks, which took away all momentum from opposing teams. I liked how he was engaged on both ends of the floor and was a nightmare matchup when he decided to be. The consistency will follow, I'm sure. He's certainly skilled, and he has such high upside that I am sure he'll be a name to know in the next year or two. Solid weekend for him.     Howell was one of those players who could completely flip the momentum of a game in a matter of seconds, and on multiple occasions this weekend, he was able to do that. He looked to be a sharpshooter with range, and he got hot. Once he saw one go in, he became a problem. He buried shots from well beyond the arc, attacked off the dribble downhill, and wasn't afraid to finish through contact. I also liked that he rebounded well for his size and battled on the boards. He hit timely shots, and he stayed involved offensively. He's the definition of a microwave scorer as someone capable of rattling off eight or ten points before the defense has a chance to adjust. I left the weekend wanting another look of a player I had not seen before. There's something refreshing about his game.     Jones is a bucket and made scoring look effortless all weekend. In the two games that I watched from him, he got to his spots, elevated confidently from the mid-range, knocked down threes, and showed no hesitation attacking bigger defenders around the rim. What stood out most was how comfortable he looked with the ball in his hands. He pushed the pace but was never sped up, and he was able to attack off the dribble. It'll be really interesting to see how he plays once he starts to understand how to attack off of screens and making the defense collapse to where he makes the next play after that, as that'll only make him a more dangerous player. There were certainly flashes of this new name player that let's me think that he's only scratching the surface. He's going to be a name to know soon.
