It was an exciting weekend on the campus of the University of Houston as they played host to the annual 2026 team camp. Several teams added new players in the offseason and the athletes were eager to showcase parts of their game they worked on over the summer. It was an eventful day of competition, and some teams came away with upset victories as well as some powerhouses winning in expected fashion.

[player_tooltip player_id='2554957' first='Malik' last='Parrish'] had his versatile arsenal on full display at the UH Team Camp in a couple of losses this weekend. He has the skillset to either hurt the defense attacking the rim or pulling up for jumpers from range as he has the height to shoot over defenders. He is vocal on the defensive side of the ball and blocks shots at the basket due to athleticism and wingspan. Parrish runs the floor effectively in transition and can draw contact from all three levels to get to the free throw line. Malik recently picked up offers from Sam Houston State, Maryland, and Auburn.

I was particularly impressed by Jackson Cooper's playmaking during the UH camp on Saturday. He fearlessly attacked the rim, undeterred by the wingspan and height of his matchups on defense and consistently found the open man for clean looks on jumpshots/ layups. Cooper can control the pace of the game well with his start-stop tempo and he is always looking to be a pass first point guard. He will make the defense pay if left open for midrange and three point looks and he is a good motivator on both sides of the ball with his hustle and effort play.

[player_tooltip player_id='2558666' first='Ryan' last='Longoria'] was consistently left open by the defense in RTX Hoops win on Saturday. Longoria showed the most efficiency when spotting up from the corner, but he did display accuracy from all areas beyond the arc on offense and his off-ball movement is very good and makes it difficult for the defense to keep up with him. He helps out with ballhandling under full court pressure, and he makes simple decisions that either involve taking open shots or moving the ball to the post.

[player_tooltip player_id='3624070' first='Carter' last='Savoy'] makes winning plays on defense and his pressure on perimeter ballhandlers allows Atascocita to capitalize in transition. Savoy is an athletic guard who can score at the basket, run lanes correctly on fastbreaks, and scores from all three levels. Carter fulfills whatever role is needed for the Eagles and he proved that he can make an impact wherever he signs at the collegiate level. I love Carter's versatility and he showcases it all in facts whenever he is on the court.

BJ LaFell is one of the best 2029 guards in the Houston area due to his impact on the game at the offensive end. He competes with intensity, generates points, and creates tough looks at the basket. He uses underrated athleticism to beat opponents to the rim, create his shots off the dribble, and draw contact fouls. LaFell pressures opposing ballhandlers into constant turnovers due to relentless intensity and he can function at either guard slot due to having a multi-tool skillset. He breaks down his matchup in the half court and uses a smooth and quick first step to get the jump on his defender and score from anywhere on the court. BJ continues to show why he is so highly ranked in the class of 2029 for Texas.
