Nevada Live Invitational: Standout Guards From Day 1

He connected on long range shots, drove to the hoop, and handled the rock a bit to help them deal with Notre Dame's constant pressure. His ability to get to his spots is next level, and while they didn't all go in. He made shots when he needed to. As a defender, he made his opponents work to try and gain ground. Plus he had a couple of steals and a block. Burying jump shots and 3's often. He did a solid job of creating separation and didn't hesitate once he had enough of a window. Virgil was also flying around on defense, applying consistent ball pressure. I also believe it's fair to say that he's looking more comfortable with his new teammates. He notably has a great sense of when defenders are going to jump or attempt to block him. And was draining both 3's and jumpers in the paint. Including what was easily the top highlight of Day 1. When he received an in bounds pass around mid court with just 3 seconds left with the Lancers down by two. He had a quick fake to his left, which shook his defender just enough. Then he let it go, and it went in just as the buzzer sounded. He had at least four treys in the first half, helping CIVICA stay in it. Then in the second half he kept hunting shots, and splashed in a couple more 3 balls. It was quite entertaining to watch, and his release was the same every time. Although they lost, he battled to the very end. He connected on shots from up top, the wing, and just about all of his makes were clean swishes. He can also slash inside a bit when there's enough of a driving lane. I was also a fan of how he competed on defense. Staying locked in and using his lateral quickness. He is much shiftier than defenders expect, which allows him to create a decent amount of separation. He dropped in jumpers and also got to the cup a few times. Plus he was facilitating the offense and setting up his teammates for quality looks. On the other end of the court, he used his speed, effort, and IQ to be a difference maker.
