NCISAA Live Showcase: Early Saturday Standouts

As we continue along the path of our June Live Period coverage here from North Carolina, we turn our focus to the morning session on Saturday from Greensboro Day. We spent a full day at the NCISAA showcase so this is the first of three pieces covering the standouts from the day! Without further delay, let's take a look at who got things started off right on Saturday morning!    Whitsett is a smooth and confident guard with legit length that allows him to elevate past defenders when attacking the rim. Whitsett has evolved from more of a wing in his earlier HS career to a real on ball guy that can only be considered a point guard. For this Wesleyan team he's asked to engineer a lot of their offense in both transition and the half court. He's able to use his gifts in the open floor to put a lot of pressure on the opposition. He's vastly improved as a jump shooter and really only takes quality looks from the perimeter. Whitsett is a real gem of a name in this 2028 class in North Carolina that is proving to be one of the strongest classes for a single state we have in the country regardless of class right now.     Nelson will unequivocally find himself amongst the ranked and relatively near the top at the time of our next 2028 update. He's a super low maintenance and talented guard that is capable of doing whatever his team needs of him on any given night. Nelson is a high level shooter from the outside while possessing more than enough athletic pop to elevate over defenders in transition. This team needs him to play well to win and that's a great situation for him and his development. He's relied on to engineer so much offense for this group, contribute on the glass, and ensure the basketball get's spread around to his teammates. It's been fun watching Nelson in different settings throughout his career up to this point and he's without a doubt a very exciting addition to this NC 2028 class.     Cole continues to shine as a versatile mismatch forward and a well rounded athlete that is more than equipped to play at a very high level. Cole possesses the necessary size to have an advantage on his matchup at the four while also holding a skill advantage more often than not. Cole uses his size and athleticism to have an impact on the game and you really see it when he's aggressive in transition. Cole is constantly on the glass, corralling rebounds for his team at both ends of the floor. He's got the ability to face up and make some plays, even knocking down the occasional perimeter jumper. As Cole expands on his foundational skillset, adds strength to his frame, and garner more high level experience under his belt, he'll continue his ascension as a national level recruit. He was recently offered by Oklahoma State.     McGee is a young prospect in this North Carolina 2030 class that showed a lot of promise in our first viewing of him with Carmel Christian. At 6'6" with long arms, McGee possesses a great set of physical tools to work with as he ingratiates to high school basketball. McGee impressed with his activity, ability to compete on the interior for rebounds, and versatility on the defensive end of the floor. There's no doubt he's going to get better quickly and play a key role on this Carmel Christian team as a freshman so it was great to get an early look at one of NC's next potential stars.     It was kind of a weird day for TBS after their first game vs Fayetteville Academy got cancelled and there was a bit of re-shuffling in the rest of the schedule. Luckily it led to an incredible matchup between The Burlington School and Greensboro Day where Holmes was able to showcase his offensive arsenal. Holmes possesses such a smooth game that is predicated on his ability to make shots at volume. This team will need Holmes to be a well rounded contributor this season to reach their peak success and it's clear that he understands his importance to this group. They unfortunately came up short to Greensboro Day but Holmes was a constant presence throughout the game.     Pierce has made the move over to Asheville Christian and it's very clear he'll play a very important role for that group this season. Pierce uses his blend of shot making and playmaking to give this team a viable option in their backcourt to create offense. Pierce brings real energy, he competes defensively and uses his leadership to get everyone in the right spot. This Asheville Christian team is consistently a winner and sending kids to the next level and it's clear that Pierce is a next level guy that will help this team win this upcoming season.     Gunter is a name that continues to trend in the right direction both within the State of North Carolina and in the national recruiting landscape. He is absolutely in a zone right now and this Greensboro Day team goes as he does in many ways. He's playing with a supreme level of confidence and self belief right now that is very apparent when you watch him. He's got a chance to continue rising in this 2028 class and he's already near the top in NC. The size, strength, skill, and want to levels being as high as they are at this stage is remarkably impressive and a sign for his development to continue at its current trajectory. Keep an eye on Gunter closely as the steam is really starting to pick up and the frequency of his elite performances is rapidly increasing.
