DMV Live S2: Friday's Top Shooters

DMV Live 2 got underway today at noon as we're in for another weekend full of action at DeMatha Catholic. As usual, I'll break down the games and prospects from several perspectives and considering all of the tremendous shooting performances that took place, it was only right to kick things off with the marksmen from deep throughout Friday's slate.    Raue got off to a hot start in St. Andrew's game against McDonogh in the early afternoon. The rising junior has no issues with confidence or the need for significant space to get his shot off when it comes off the catch. His size at 6-foot-5 combined the lift he gets makes it extremely difficult for his defenders to get a clean contest or a finger on the release. Whether he was running off pindown screens, quickly getting it up off dribble-drive and kicks or getting to his spots off limited bounces, Raue showed the pure mechanics and the results didn't disappoint as he finished with 19PTS, going 3-of-3 from deep.     Bailey made it clear that he wasn't shying away from the trigger right from the jump in their game against Calvert Hall. The 6-foot-1 guard teed off early and often from well beyond the arc and it made no difference if a hand was in his face or not. After picking up his first Division I offer from Tennessee Tech at the conclusion of DMV Live S1, he has the attention of several other programs thanks to his shotmaking, ability to defend either guard spot with impact and his production off little to no dribbles. The sturdy combo guard finished with 19PTS on 5-9 shooting from three in Westtown's win over Calvert Hall.     Absolutely no surprise that Cully demanded a spot on this list as the body of work is becoming apparent to college coaches in regards to his elite outside shooting ability. He's lit it up in the spring for DC Assault, let it fly from the parking lot in S1 and wasted no time in teeing off here in S2. O'Connell looks the part as a potential contender in the WCAC this season and it's Cully's floor-spacing that will be critical in determining their ultimate fate. As for now, Cully led O'Connell in their commanding win over a good Potomac group behind     Efficient outing from Udo from the opening tip as the Brown pledge made staffers proud behind his 21PTS on 8-of-13 from the field to go with four assists and four rebounds. He's just an overall steady lead guard who brings a calming pace and command. Throughout S1 he took on more of the table-setting, initiator role but as he showed today when his shot is falling from three (4-of-6), his value as the lead guy for Brown down the road raises significantly.   He followed up with another standout performance in a win over Mt. Zion Prep as Udo was responsible for the late-game surge to help regain the lead with under 30 seconds left. He was good for 20PTS and 8ASTS as Westtown finished the day 2-0.     Like many of the guys mentioned in this article, McNamara didn't waste much time making his presence felt as he rattled off three-straight three's to start the game against Bishop O'Connell. With great positional size at 6-foot-9, he projects as a potentially lethal stretch-four at the next level and it seemed like with any space on the catch, the results were feathery. His 21PTS all came from downtown as he converted 7-of-10 from beyond the arc in the close loss to Bishop O'Connell.     Real argument for Carter to be the biggest stock-riser for the month of June in Maryland/DC/Virginia as the 6-foot-6 wing should see his recruitment balloon to the highest levels of college basketball given his size, elite shooting ability and his IQ. After a steadily productive week at Nike Top 100, coaches came in droves to check out his progression and he shined with 21PTS (all coming from three), three assists and three rebounds.     Another Highland prospect who was hot from three was Smith, whose been due for a standout performance as of late. He allowed the game to come to him and took what the defense gave him on the catch whether it was a clean look from three or a driving lane to slash into and finish with soft floaters. The array of weapons on this Highland team is going to result in open looks for Smith from the perimeter and he let it fly with confidence to a tune of 17PTS, finishing 5-of-6 from downtown.     Sanchez established himself quickly in Academy of Central Florida's matchup against Clinton Grace with a sideline packed with college coaches. His name was making its way around circles due to his size at 6-foot-7 and his confidence from range that extends well beyond the high school line. The southpaw doesn't have the typical mechanics that lefties do that are easy on the eyes, but the results speak for themselves as the guard/wing knocked down a handful of trey's en route to 17PTS. All came off the catch or quick 1-dribble pulls to reestablish his balance before rising up, but it's clear he has a jumper that can quickly change the course of games when he's on target like tonight.
