Chesterton Summer League (6/23) - Ramsey's Standouts

We pride ourselves at Prep Hoops Indiana on covering the state from border to border. That is why we hire staff from different areas of the state, but also why we put in the windshield time as well. On Tuesday night we made the trip up to The Region for the annual Chesterton Summer League. Here are some of the top standouts that we were able to see on Tuesday evening.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    The summer of [player_tooltip player_id='2878216' first='Bradley' last='Basila'] continues. He played very well once again on Tuesday night showcasing his two-way versatility. The 6'7" forward is continuing to shoot it well from three-point range this spring and summer. However, he also drives it right from the perimeter and uses his athleticism and strength to score at the rim. Then, defensively, he is disruptive as a shot blocker and excellent at ending possessions with a defensive rebound.     Jarrett is an excellent pure athlete that utilizes that gift as an offensive rebounder, transition finisher, and slasher/right hand driver. He loves to sky above the fray from the perimeter and crash the offensive glass. The 6'4" wing from Munster High School also can operate against closeouts and then elevate to finish at the rim. His physical tools make him an intriguing under-the-radar prospect heading into the Charlie Hughes Showcase and the month of July.     We here at Prep Hoops Indiana have always liked the upside that this 6'5" forward from Chesterton High School has shown. Kostbade is really starting to come into his own now as a rising junior. He shot the ball very well from three-point range on Tuesday night. That catch-and-shoot ability at his size is his most intriguing skill right now. He does move around well otherwise and continues to showcase the upside that we've been tracking since his freshman year.     It is fun to watch Lemons go rebound the basketball. He relentlessly attacks the glass on both ends of the floor possessing the athleticism and strength to play larger than his height. Lemons is an above the rim player as a 6'4" forward that finds a lot of success in transition as well. His motor, athleticism, and ability to make things happen on the interior should attract the attention of some small college programs in the coming months.     South Bend Adams lost two big time scorers from last season, one to graduation and one to transfer. However, this 6'3" rising senior wing looks ready to step into a much larger role this season. Neal is a 6'3" slasher/right hand driver who flashed some explosiveness when getting downhill to the rim. He played through contact and finished consistently inside while showing some pop in transition as well. Solid under-the-radar prospect in the South Bend area that could have a breakout senior season.     This playmaking point guard has been a consistent standout for Marquette Catholic over the years. It was good getting the chance to see his passing ability in person on Tuesday evening. Rael-Kludt is a smaller guard, but he does a great job of getting downhill in a hurry going either direction. Then, from a live dribble he keeps his head up and displays excellent court vision and passing ability. He is a proven scorer too with a smooth pull-up jump shot and some creativity as an intermediate range and at the rim scorer. Under-the-radar small college prospect to watch.     One of the most obvious standouts from Tuesday night was this 6'1" guard from Andrean High School. We saw the rising sophomore play in the spring some with [program_tooltip program_id='2075551' first='Indiana' last='Game'], but he really played well on Chesterton. He was knocking down pull-up three-point shots, getting to the rim seemingly whenever he wanted, and scoring in the intermediate range when necessary. His ball skill and overall shot-making ability really stood out. Looking like a stock-riser in the Class of 2029.     Some players simply have a knack for putting the ball in the basket. Upshaw Jr. is one of the guys. For a smaller guard he does such a great job of finishing against size at the end of his drives and is very good at creating separation so he can cleanly get off pull-up jump shots both from the mid-range and from beyond the arc. The rising sophomore guard played very well on the offensive end in the game we watched on Tuesday night.
