Day 1 at the Centennial State Cup gave you a chance to find some new ones, and the 15U group had a few guys make that easy. Went in without much on some of these names, but it didn't take long before they started popping up across different games. Nothing forced, just players making the right plays and impacting things. These are the new 15U names that stood out.

The Titans went up with unarguably the top 15U team that is in the event to open up Day 1, and while the odds were stacked against them, you do get to see who competes and who does in these kinds of situations, and he made the most of the game. He still played the right way, competed, and had a few plays that popped. I like that he was still getting screens and passing. He was still shooting the mid-range jumpers and had a few over-the-shoulder drop finishes no matter who was around, and despite giving up major size and athleticism, was battling for boards and on plays. He's a player who plays hard and the right way, and that stood out to me on Day 1. Curious to see how they build off of that game, and he'll be a player I keep an eye on.

Braxton did not have much of a buzz heading into the event, but with his ability to compete and keep up despite being up against such a loaded team, he's now got my attention. He moved without the ball, he got his hands on a few plays for rebounds, and he also got out and finished in transition, and that kind of play gains traction. I like the fact that he plays with balance and control in a game that they were certainly not in control of. Braxton plays the right way, makes high-IQ plays with or without the ball, and does not force the issue too much. He is a player who remained aggressive despite being sped up and overwhelmed at times. He kept making plays happen and will be a player to watch for the next couple of days.

Alex is a player who I did not know about heading into the event, but he made plays happen. He opened up the game with an open 3-pointer and kept hunting them throughout the game. He hit a few of them to keep the defense honest, and they tried to run him off the line to get him out of his groove. When things got stagnant, and Peak2Peak couldn't get any baskets, that's who they found, and he delivered. Alex showcased his versatility by playing both on and off the ball. He moved without it and kept moving to space the floor. He's a player to keep an eye on throughout the weekend.

When watching [program_tooltip program_id='3564524' first='Team' last='Excellence'], a player who I was unfamiliar with but kept watching him hit catch and shoot rhythm shots was Luke Mulledy. He was hitting pump fake mid-range pull-ups, giving teammates space with the defense trying to keep it out of his hands, and Luke made the defense pay when they gave him open looks. That extended to him being a force on the boards and also making plays happen on the defensive side of the ball as well. Luke is versatile and creative with the ball in his hands, and he finished from all three levels. He lit it up on Day 1.

Weeks was a spark for Tru Colorado, and he started the game off with a bang. He was breaking down the defense and getting to the rim. He had some catch-and-shoot 3 pointers as well, and looked to be the team's go-to option throughout the game. He ran the floor for finishes, slashed for a left-hand finish, and was who teammates found when Team Daum went into their zone who got a few steals. He handled pressure, made some high IQ reads and passes, and was a big reason that Tru Colorado 2029 Select got a close win in a high-scoring affair on Day 1. Solid game for him.
