has made a strong case as the top guard in the 2029 class. One of the biggest reasons was shown at Prep Hoops Windy City War with
Mac Irvin Fire
. He doesn't need to score to be impactful. While he did have his moments as a downhill terror off the bounce it was his passing and on ball defense that made the biggest impression. Pushed the ball in the open floor while also showing feel in the half court. Passes off movement, live dribbles, and long outlets. Found teammates inside and dished it with flair. Defensively he was a monster putting pressure on the ball, staying in front of his man, and causing havoc. Plus rebounder for a guard as well.
We chatted about his first year of high school basketball at Mt. Carmel.
“It went really well. I think I have grown a lot as a player. My character on the court and IQ really increased.”
How would he break down his game for fans and college coaches who have yet to see him play?
“I play any type of game that is needed. I am adaptive. If I need get a lot of assists I will do that. If it is a game I need to score I will score. I am versatile and takes what the defense gives me.”
Johnson spoke about the early spring so far with Mac Irvin Fire EYBL 15U.
“I feel like it is going well. I feel like we are getting better and better every weekend.”
What impressed us was with this team he can really stuff the stat sheet across the board.
“Every game I don't have to score so it allows me to do other things.”
