One of the top AAU events of the spring took place over this past weekend with the 2026 Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground all weekend long and we were able to check out some of the top prospects and teams from the state when it comes to the grassroots programs. As we start to recap all the players that we had a chance to get eyes on, here is part 4 of 5 of my player standouts and notebook.

Got a chance to watch the Bedford guard early morning Saturday at Run N Slam and although his offense was not fully there scoring wise in that one particular game, it was the defense that I thought really stood out for him. Kern is a smart guard that can really compete on the floor. He showed some nice hands on the defensive end getting them on the ball and in the passing lanes. Just overall like the pace and IQ he has on both ends of the floor.

If I had to pick my top five players that I was most impressed with this past weekend, [player_tooltip player_id='2243047' first='Caleb' last='Wells'] would easily be on that list. Coming off the bench in the two games I saw of [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 17u, Wells was ready to go as soon as stepped onto the floor being that sharpshooter that he is. Not only did he do a good job spacing the floor, he also had some nice moments putting the ball on the floor and scoring at the rim. Just a guy that plays within himself.

A rising big man that showed some nice things over the weekend was [player_tooltip player_id='2140333' first='Braylon' last='Pippins'] of Cathedral HS. Pippins was strong in the post up for UNRNKED 17U and just overall was very active around there on both ends of the floor. He is a real solid rim-running big that can be pretty skilled at times for his size. He has put together a nice strong of performances over the course of the last few months.

An under-the-radar player that I enjoyed watching over the weekend was [player_tooltip player_id='3044915' first='AJ' last='Amos']. Running with [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 17U-Red, Amos was that bull in the china shop type of big. He has the frame of a power forward but is more of guard that can use his strength to attack the defense and score through contact. He also has some nice skill as a guy that can knock down the deep ball, as well.

A few players stood out from the Progeny 16U team and one of those was their lead guard, [player_tooltip player_id='2538843' first='Braxton' last='Bowman']. The point guard out of Crawford County was one of the highest IQ guard I watched on the day showcasing incredible passing and playmaking ability. He is a guard that plays with nice pace and one that can also find scoring opportunities for himself, as well. A very skilled guard.
