I attended the annual Prep Hoops AZ Bash in the Desert at the Phhacility in Phx May 1-3.

I viewed nearly every team in the 17U division but also saw some 15 and 16U teams. And here were some of the top shooting guard and combo guards.

15-16U Standout SG/CG's

[player_tooltip player_id='2457855' first='Lucas' last='Alvarado'] Pinnacle ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 16 Rise)

A bigger combo guard plays off of the pick and roll game. He makes quicker decisions and good reads with the ball and plays as their team's lead guard. He is getting more athletic and can rip thru and dunk it. He takes contact well in the lane with his sturdy frame and the mid-range pull-up seems to be his sweet spot but can also hit the three.

[player_tooltip player_id='2628381' first='Enzo' last='Castillo'] Tanque Verde (Tucson Spartans 16 Rise)

A long and lean combo guard is getting a little more athletic and comes with a lot of skill. He is a catch and shoot three point sniper with a quick trigger and squares up like you should. He has quick hands to collect steals and he rebounds well despite his leaner frame.

[player_tooltip player_id='2947347' first='Braylon' last='Hartley'] Arcadia (Vegas Elite 15 EYBL)

A bigger combo guard can score, facilitate and defend. He takes long steps and will burst into the lane to score or get fouled and he is a catch and shoot three point type. He is a good on-ball defender using his upper body strength and length to collect steals. He played through an injured thumb showing his toughness.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552773' first='Davis' last='Mason'] Hamilton (UH Elite 16)

A bigger scoring guard who can play on or off the ball. He will score it with threes off the catch, layups off of curls, he cuts off the ball and will give a sharp ball fake into a tough mid-range pull-up. He is getting more confident as the AAU season goes on and slowly getting back to his old form pre injury.

[player_tooltip player_id='3625658' first='Jayden' last='Porter'] Centennial (AZ Storm 16) (Pictured)

A cerebral point guard who looks to make plays and he can score. He smartly knows to how to change speeds to get a step on his defender and he will find a teammate or get to the basket. He has a nice shooting stroke from the three point line and takes care of the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2506450' first='Joshua' last='Salter'] Sahuaro (Tucson Spartans 16 Rise)

A scoring combo guard is a southpaw who is a tough two-way player. He is an usually good rebounder for his size and plays with aggression and a motor combined with athleticism. He is a good bail passer with perfect timing and precision. He will crossover into a jumper, hit the three and he has quick hands on defense.
