AAU season is fully upon us and everyone's attention is focused on the upcoming tournaments on the AAU calendar. A handful of programs have begun playing in different warm up events in anticipation for different tournaments this spring. One of New Jersey's best independent programs— the [program_tooltip program_id='2078572' first='New' last='Jersey Panthers'], held an intersquad scrimmage early last week, giving viewers a first look at this year's different Panthers group(s). Even though a number of key players were missing from the action due to different short term injuries, it was still a quality look at the talented and deep group on hand across each age group. With that being said, let's dive into some notable prospects who garnered some buzz from last week's intersquad scrimmages.

[player_tooltip player_id='2344534' first='James' last='Roberts'] | 6'2" G 2027 East Orange Campus

A seamless offensive fit with his ability to be extremely impactful without necessarily dominating the ball, [player_tooltip player_id='2344534' first='James' last='Roberts'] figures to be a vital part of this Panthers 17U HGSL success— blending his deft outside shooting touch with efficiency from the field and versatility as an outside spot up shooter and creating separation off the bounce from the perimeter while also showcasing his play finishing in the open floor with explosive above the rim finishes and crafty finishes in traffic. Where Roberts impressed the most though during last week's intersquad action was defensively— using his defensive instincts paired with his hustle, effort, and energy to be disruptive in the passing lanes and pressuring the ball against opposing ball handlers to force turnovers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2628248' first='Terrance' last='Jamison'] | 6'5" F 2027 St. Benedict's Prep

Expected to be a vital piece to this Panthers' HGSL 17U success with the constant mismatch problems he generates, [player_tooltip player_id='2628248' first='Terrance' last='Jamison'] showed strong glimpses of what that could look like later this spring. Jamison showcased his quick twitch ability off the bounce to blow by slower footed defenders and get to the rim while also becoming increasingly more comfortable and confident from three point range, knocking down a pair of open looks off the catch in their intersquad action. Much like his usual self, Jamison was also extremely effective in the open floor, sprinting the floor and finishing athletically above the rim in transition.

Triston Harvey | 6'4" F 2028 East Brunswick

Triston Harvey is a unique piece who possesses the size and versatility to impact the game in different areas— possessing the fluidity to guard quicker guards out in space and the strength to bang against bigger post players, capable of scoring in different actions particularly with his mid-range area shot making, crashing the glass with effort and energy to come down with rebounds, and also possessing a potent enough handle to initiate the break in the open floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2683638' first='RJ' last='Wicks'] | 6'8" F Union Catholic

[player_tooltip player_id='2683638' first='RJ' last='Wicks'] exuded an interesting combination of legitimate size and unique skill at his position. Wicks' skillset figures to be an intricate piece of this Panthers' 16U HGSL offense with the distinctive layer he expects to add to the offense— offering legitimate floor spacing as a perimeter shooter as a strong pick and pop threat/ spot up shooter off the catch while also leveraging his rare fluidity and mobility to put the ball on the floor, attacking closeouts and finishing in traffic at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='3536400' first='Braelen' last='Blackmon'] | 5'10" G Morristown Beard

Coming off a really productive freshman season that saw him average double figures and be a vital piece in the backcourt for Morristown Beard, [player_tooltip player_id='3536400' first='Braelen' last='Blackmon'] is looking to carry much of that momentum into this spring and summer. Braelen offers unique versatility that highlights his impact as a facilitator, setting the table and getting his teammates the ball in the right spots paired with off ball scoring, particularly spot up shooting from three point range and attacking closeouts with quick decision making to get in the paint and finish around the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='2788641' first='Gavin' last='Roach'] | 6'3" G West Side

[player_tooltip player_id='2788641' first='Gavin' last='Roach'] is an extremely aggressive scoring guard who is relentless in attacking driving angles and getting downhill, and showcased some of that ability throughout the Panthers' intersquad scrimmages. An intricate part to Roach's long term development however is impacting the game more from the perimeter and countering that downhill aggression with outside shooting— and Roach showed an increased comfort doing so, offering slightly more efficient perimeter shot making throughout the Panthers' 16U intersquad scrimmages earlier last week, what's expected to be a major point of emphasis heading into the spring for his development.

Lis Binishi | 6'2" G The Patrick School

Consistently proving to be a more than reliable guard in the backcourt, Lis Banishi figures to do just that for this Panthers 17U HGSL group— a connective piece who just plays the right way offering open floor playmaking in transition, posing as a respectable threat from three point range, and unselfish passing and/or offensive initiation within half court offense.

Wesley Wolfe | 6'8" F Hunterdon Central

Figured to be a vital part to the different actions this 17U Academic due in large part to his positional size and impact in the paint, Wesley Wolfe showed some solid intangibles in last week's intersquad action— carving out space on the interior with his size and strength paired with his solid touch and solid footwork around the basket to be an effective finisher around the basket.
