Whew. That was nerve-wracking. Sixteen entered. Eight left alive. Eight team carcasses lay lifeless on the arena floor.

3/9/26: Facing a tremendous Whitehaven Tiger team Armani played very well. He lived at the free throw line. Armani earned an Austin Peay almost a year ago and if that offer holds up, he would do well to sign with Austin Peay Head Coach Corey Gipson. Great size for a lead guard. Excellent first-step quickness. Developing from deep. Needs to commitment consistently as an on-ball defender.

His Tigers rotate the tallest lineup in the state, save maybe Bartlett, making Fitzpatrick an important but not critical piece. His defensive positioning and low-ego play earn him minutes. Occasionally he will score, but generally the team gets 6-8 ppg from him. He will play in college next fall. Where? TBD.

3/9/26: The advantage Kirkwood had on Whitehaven was guard skill and yet sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='3258055' first='Eric' last='Winston'] embraced the challenge alongside Jamichael Mitchell. Even though [player_tooltip player_id='2278560' first='Bryce' last='Garnett'] + [player_tooltip player_id='2309002' first='Armani' last='Smith'] put up more points it is difficult to argue they did it without frustration and turnovers. Winston was and is very quick. He loves to square up and get his feet in front of you, the ball-handler. Whitehaven's center [player_tooltip player_id='2886050' first='Aliyu' last='Idris'] needs court balance to keep doubles and triples away. Winston is not a killer outside shooter yet, but he is impossible to close out on if teams do commit to doubling down.

3/9/26: Improving to 24-11, Farragut advanced to the 2026 State Tournament by winning their 13th road game of the season. All-County guard [player_tooltip player_id='1683902' first='Parker' last='Lane'] was integral in the victory Monday night. Parker scored 12 points as the Admirals dispatched of Sevier County, 57-50. Farragut leans on Parker for shot-creation and dribbling. He is listed as a point guard here, but generally plays as a do-it-all guard for Farragut's 2025-2026 team.

3/9/26: Walker Valley stomped on Lebanon early, hopping out to a 18-5. District MVP [player_tooltip player_id='2754640' first='Zach' last='Davis'] was tough on the defensive glass and drawing fouls with the drive. Late in the first quarter, Davis tracked down an offensive rebound, saved it to [player_tooltip player_id='3338149' first='Isaac' last='Sausville'] as he jumped out of bounds, then returned to play. The junior pump-faked a Lebanon defender expertly only to quickly release a successful three-point splash. The Mustangs cut down the nets late Monday, winning comfortably 74-58, but do not believe they are done. This group is 59-8 in the last two years and perfectly capable of nudging that up to 60.
