The 2026 OSAA 6A State Tournament was one for the record books! Close games, upset wins, amazing comebacks, & then to cap things off a state title game finish that may never be matched in our state. What a great week of hoops at the Chiles Center. Now that the dust has settled a little bit, we take a look at some of the guys who raised their stock with college coaches based on their play throughout the week. Some of these guys were known commodities who cemented their standings, others were players who entered the week a little under the radar, but emerged with some buzz. All these players are currently uncommitted.

Vialva's last 15 seconds of the state title game will go down as the stuff of legends, two made 3's, including one at the buzzer to help Tualatin snag the state title away from Central Catholic. Even without those late game heroics, Vialva impressed throughout the week with his all around play. He regularly knocked down tough shots, got his teammates involved on the offensive end, guarded the ball, & rebounded at a high level for his position & height.

Hopkins-McGlothen was a name that people inside the Oregon basketball community were aware of heading into March. Usually the chatter was, "I hear Benson has a good freshman." His play over the last two weeks has made him a household name. Starting off with his buzzer beating three to knock out #1 seed Southridge in the round of 16, to his consistent play at the Chiles Center. McGlothen was the only freshman or sophomore to earn all tournament recognition (2nd team) & increased his recruiting profile, where he already holds a handful of D1 offers.

After battling through a rough first night while battling the flu, Johnson played at a high level the rest of the week in leading Sherwood to a 4th place finish, the highest in school history at the 6A level. Along the way, he impressed scouts & college coaches with his toughness & competitive nature, to go along with an ever improving skill set.

The title game didn't finish the way that Nicholson or the Rams had hoped, but that doesn't detract from his play throughout the week. After a monster game (27 points) in the quarterfinals, Nicholson continued to show the skill set & basketball iq that should have NAIA & D2 programs taking a long look over the coming weeks.

To be honest, the entire Grant roster has turned a lot of heads over the past couple of weeks. Most basketball experts have them on the short list of potential state title teams in both 2027 & 2028. We easily could have featured any of their starting 5, all who turned heads with their play. For our money, the guy who had the biggest week plus, was the 6'7 freshman forward. His athleticism & activity were on display, as he easily lead the tournament in put back dunks. He finished the week with 25 rebounds, despite facing serious foul trouble in game 2. As he continues to refine his offensive skill set, the ceiling is high for Cogan & the Generals.
