Johnson is a combination of athleticism and toughness, and the rising senior put those to use in a late round win over Wilsonville. The lefty is very difficult to stop when he aggressively goes to his strong left hand but capably finished plays around the hoop with his right hand as well. He finished with a team-high 16 points but one of the other reasons why Johnson has drawn collegiate recruiting attention – including an early offer from OIT – is because of his attention on the defensive end as well, where he registered a couple of blocks and steals.
Johnson had a monster year which culminated in Sherwood finishing 4th at the 6A state tournament & him winning league POY. The physical lefty is know for a relentless motor & the ability to attack the basket & finish with a level of efficiency. As his perimeter shot continues to improve, look for NAIA & D2 programs to give Johnson a long look.
After battling through a rough first night while battling the flu, Johnson played at a high level the rest of the week in leading Sherwood to a 4th place finish, the highest in school history at the 6A level. Along the way, he impressed scouts & college coaches with his toughness & competitive nature, to go along with an ever improving skill set.
Johnson is a smart offensive player who can score in a variety of ways. A solid outside shooter, Johnson isn’t afraid to let it fly, and if defenders leave him open, he’ll make them pay. He’s also a strong slasher who can attack the rim, and he adds another layer to his scoring with a smooth fadeaway in his arsenal. Johnson’s confidence and shot-making ability make him a constant scoring threat. Johnson had 20 points and 11 rebounds in the game.
This season was a breakout for the junior guard as he ascended into a leading role offensively with his ability to not only attack from the perimeter but muscle defenders down low for buckets. He’s averaging just over 19 points a game and actually been Sherwood’s top scorer overall. A tremendous athlete, he’s a devastating finisher in transition and has been outstanding defensively as well as the Bowmen enter the playoffs on a 15-game winning streak.
Johnson turned in a strong all-around performance, finishing with 16 points while impacting the game with his athleticism and effort. A relentless slasher and high flyer, he attacks the rim aggressively and keeps plays alive with his work on the glass. Johnson is a great competitor who embraces pressure moments, defends well on the ball, and rebounds at a high level. He also contributed at the free-throw line, rounding out a tough, high-energy showing.
Johnson is a smooth lefty who plays with pace and poise. He effectively changes levels and speed to keep defenders off balance, and most importantly, he elevates well on his jumper and makes them consistently. He is solid with his handle when ball-handling and shoots the ball well off of good sets. He has a lot of upside.
Avery impressed with his quickness and up-tempo style of play, establishing himself as one of the top athletic guards in his class. Johnson showcased the ability to score from all three levels, finishing strong at the rim while also displaying a smooth shooting touch. He played unselfishly, demonstrated a high basketball IQ, and consistently made winning plays for his team. (AG)
