We updated our rankings for the senior class for the final time Wednesday, with our scouts doing a great job of covering games in person or grinding film to add in 52 new prospects into the class to recognize the hard work of our local prospects. Here we'll break down a few elite defenders that impressed us enough to receive a nice final bump to their rankings status on the site. Let's dive in!

-Have to start things off with the the Defensive Player of the Year in Montgomery County. Chukwurah was a ferocious on-ball defender particularly skilled at applying ball pressure and turning steals or deflections into points at the opposite ends of the floor. Our scouts thought that he was equally effectively defensively off the ball, rotating well to block shots both on the perimeter and around the basket within Poolesville's defensive schemes.

-Clark took some serious strides over the course of the season to provide a scrappy on-ball defender for a Cadets team that played in the WCAC championship and won DC States. Clark got under his matchup effectively before ball screens arrived at the top of the key to enable him to fight over ball screens and force the ball to the sidelines to generate turnovers and disrupt offensive flow. Our scouts also liked his contributions as an effective helper, using a quick set of hands to swipe away steals and force tie-ups in the paint for his team. His ability to collect steals or long defensive rebounds then quickly get the Cadets into their transition offense was crucial over the course of the season.

-Mbuyamba put together a very strong senior year for the basketball team, dropping football to focus on the hardwood and it paid dividends. Mbuyamba gave 1st year HC Keith Urgo a sturdy wing defender that could body up with bigs on the low block while forcing guards to vulnerable spots on the floor in the corners or along the sideline to generate stops for the Purple Eagles. His blend of upper body strength and leaping ability allowed him to serve as an effective shot-blocker around the rim that doubled as an effective rebounder amongst the trees in the paint. The aggressive/assertive play forged on the gridiron carried over well to his role on the basketball team as a leader that played a big role in several upset victories during the course of league play.

-Ainsworth served as a strong, switchable wing defender that played a big role in RB's success over the course of the season. With a sturdy frame, + wingspan, and lateral movement skills-- he gave 1st year HC Rob Garner a ton of lineup flexibility at both ends of the floor as a prospect that contributed to winning because of his willingness to do all of the little things. Ainsworth was equally adept at fighting over ball screens as he was at guarding up a position group or two in the paint. His ability to cover ground on closeouts from the paint to the perimeter and vice versa played a huge role in the defensive success of his group that ended up flipping the momentum in several of their signature wins.

-The senior leader bided his time on Eye St and was rewarded with a big role this season with the Purple Eagles. Peterson is a cat-quick PG prospect that blows up ball screens with his ability to get under his matchup to force traveling violations or deflections before the ball screen even arrived. Loved the tenacity that he showed denying the ball on both BLOB and SLOB possessions throughout the season, forcing 5-second violations and turnovers that gave his team positive momentum in key moments.
