Thursday Night Rivalry Showdown

Trinity made the short trip across town to face Benedictine on Thursday night. You could feel the tension before tipoff. Rivalry games don't need extra motivation, but this one had it anyway. The gym was packed, both student sections were loud, and every possession felt like it mattered. From the opening minutes, it was clear this would be a gritty, physical, and highly competitive battle.

Benedictine leaned heavily on junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2624544' first='Chris' last='Lamm'], who turned in another impressive performance. Lamm finished with 16 points on an efficient 58% shooting from the field, along with 3 assists and 2 steals. He was aggressive in attacking gaps, poised under pressure, and consistently made the right reads against Trinity's length and versatility. While the Cadets competed hard throughout, they struggled to match the depth and offensive firepower Trinity brought to the floor.

On the other side, Trinity once again showcased why they're one of the most dangerous teams in the area. The Titans' balance, size, and shot-making proved to be the difference in key stretches.

Lamm did everything he could to will the Cadets to a win. He excelled in the mid-range. He confidently knocked down pull-ups and fadeaways. He used ball screens effectively to create space. He showed toughness attacking bigger defenders and didn't shy away from contact.

What stood out most was his composure. Even when Trinity went on runs, Lamm never rushed. He dictated tempo. He picked his spots. He showed he can hold his own against some of the top talent in the state. His efficiency (58% from the field) speaks to the quality of shots he generated. In a rivalry environment like this, that type of production and leadership matters.

Gregory delivered a statement performance with a 20-point double-double. This further solidified his reputation as the top big man in the area. He is considered a legitimate Division I prospect. He controlled the glass on both ends. He anchored the paint defensively. Once he established position, stopping him was nearly impossible.

Keaton scored in a variety of ways. He finished through contact. He stepped out to knock down jumpers. He made timely reads out of pick-and-roll situations and had some monster dunks. His understanding of when to push hard and when to pull back shows a high basketball IQ. Beyond the numbers, it was his competitive edge that stood out. He plays with a motor and physicality that separates him from most frontcourt players at this level.

For those unfamiliar, Kane Winiarski is a name you need to know. The freshman transfer from Amelia Academy has wasted no time making an impact. He lit it up from beyond the arc, attacked closeouts, and showed confidence well beyond his years.

What's impressive about Winiarski isn't just the scoring — it's the decision-making. He reads help defenders, understands spacing, and consistently makes the right play. He looked comfortable in a big-game setting. It didn't matter if it was a catch-and-shoot three, a strong take to the rim, or a pull-up in rhythm. He maintained his composure. For a 2029 prospect to perform like that in a rivalry matchup says a lot about his long-term trajectory.

Another freshman who turned heads was 6'4 wing/combo guard Jeremiah Robinson. With his length and athleticism, he brings versatility on both ends of the floor. Robinson is a lights-out shooter from deep, but what impressed me most was his poise with the ball.

At times he handled point guard duties, showing solid ball control and the ability to read the defense. He made smart decisions, didn't force shots, and contributed within the flow of the offense. Defensively, he's one of the better on-ball defenders in the area already. His length allows him to disrupt passing lanes, and he competes on every possession.

For a freshman to impact the game in so many ways — scoring, defending, facilitating — speaks to his upside. He has next-level potential written all over him.

Conclusion

In the end, Trinity's depth, size, and versatility proved too much for a young but resilient Benedictine squad. The Cadets battled, and [player_tooltip player_id='2624544' first='Chris' last='Lamm'] showed once again why he's one of the premier guards in the area. However, Trinity has an elite player in [player_tooltip player_id='2370724' first='Keaton' last='Gregory']. They also have emerging young talent in Winiarski and Robinson. This combination makes them a serious threat moving forward.

Rivalry games often reveal a team's identity, and on Thursday night, Trinity looked like a group built for big moments. Benedictine showed heart and competitiveness, but Trinity's firepower ultimately carried the night. As the season continues to unfold, this matchup could be a preview of even bigger battles to come.
