The Case for the Regals:

Just as they were contenders in 1A on the gridiron, Iowa City Regina is amongst the top teams on the court, too. That's part in parcel thanks to three football prospects that are helping out the Regals on the basketball squad this fall, too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2419768' first='Tate' last='Wallace'], the No. 4 player in the state on Prep Redzone Iowa and a junior linebacker prospect that holds football offers from Minnesota, Tennessee, West Virginia and others, leads the way on the court. So far this season, the 6-foot-3 forward is averagign 17.4 points, six rebounds, 2 assists and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting a whopping 64.6% from the field for the Regals. A big, powerful, explosive body, Wallace uses the same physical traits that make him stand out on the football field to score at the rim and rebound on the court.

Numer two on the court and number two on the defensive line for the Regals is [player_tooltip player_id='2419815' first='Will' last='Litton']. A gifted pass-rusher like Wallace, Litton was an All-State defensive end in 1A this fall. The multi-sport star, who also plays baseball for Regina, plays in the front court, as well, serving as a 6-foot-5 forward. Starting all 16 of the Regals' games so far in their 15-1 season (their only loss coming at the hands of 3A title contender, Solon), Litton is putting up 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, tying for the team lead in boards. He adds 2 assists and 1.9 steals per contest.

Tied with Litton atop the rebounding statistic is 6-foot-9 sophomore, [player_tooltip player_id='2523886' first='Ben' last='Wade']. A mid-major recruit with offers from Northern Iowa and Drake so far, Wade averages 10.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest. A lanky, bouncy forward that can throw down dunks with ease, Wade is shooting 55.4% from the floor so far this season. Growing as a shooter and passer will likely help Wade's recruitment grow.

One of their starting guards, [player_tooltip player_id='2886831' first='Drew' last='Greve'] was also a star on the football field for the Regals this fall. One of the leaders in the state in interceptions by grabbing eight on the backend of the state runner-up defense. On the court he's a major asset, too -- providing a major amount of assists. The leader on the team in the category by averaging 4.5 per game, Greve's assist-to-turnover ratio is 4.86, a stellar number for a lead guard. Taking after his football performance as a defensive back, Greve also registers two steals per game for the Regals.

Regina isn't perfect, but they have the makings of a team that could come together at the right time and make a run to Des Moines with their mult-sport athletes and frontcourt size.
