Varsity Spotlight- George Washington Continentals

George Washington is a Senior laden team who plays hard and fights for everything on the basketball court.    Explosive guard who easily beats defenders and attacks the basket. A good ball handler who was great at winning his one-on-one match-ups. There was a moment in the game where Roosevelt crossed over his opponent, attacked the basket and scored through contact. This led to a three-point play opportunity from the foul-line. Roosevelt calmly stepped to the line and converted it. Whenever he had a chance to knock down threes or score in transition, Roosevelt took advantage of the opportunity. The impression I received from his skills was that of a dynamic scorer who's effective from all areas of the court. On defense, Roosevelt was great at defending on the ball and playing the passing lanes. He finished the game with multiple steals. Roosevelt is an awesome two-way player who will have no issues transitioning into college basketball next season.     A great rebounder who runs the floor, scores in the paint, finishes through contact and defends. Camryn played a strong game Saturday night. He showed the ability to score in the post with a variety of moves. Some of those scores led to three-point play opportunities from the free-throw line. He also showed the capability of knocking down shots on the perimeter. Camryn made a high percentage of his shots in the match-up against Ben Davis. When he was isolated with an opponent, he used a nice hesitation dribble to free himself up on numerous occasions. Whenever the Continentals ran the court, Camryn finished strong during fast-breaks. On defense he blocked shots, protected the paint and guarded smaller players on the perimeter.      He's a tough minded guard who plays the game with a quiet confidence. Terrell was great at attacking defenders and getting to the basket. The majority of his scores came off tough drives that led to positive outcomes. Some of his slashes drew in defenders which allowed him to assists his teammates for easy scores. Terrell is a great rebounder at the guard position. He often attacked the glass with the same ferocity as he did on offense. When George Washington had opportunities to run the court, Terrell showed the ability to finish strong in transition. On defense, he was a ball-hawk. Most of the steals he forced, led to transition points for other George Washington players. Terrell is a great defensive guard. I could easily see him transitioning to the college landscape next season.     King showed the ability to make shots from everywhere on the basketball court. Whether it was slashing to the basket, scoring from mid-range or converting threes, King found ways to be effective on offense. He excelled at finding ways to free himself for open looks at the basket. There was a sequence in the game where he caught fire! King was able to knock down multiple three-pointers on consecutive possessions. Whenever he drove into the paint, King showed the ability to make floaters. This was an effective shot he often scored over taller defenders. On defense, he was great at jumping pass lanes and generating steals. King has all the traits of being an elite talent sooner rather than later.     I watched Pai're play the last season at Christel House High School. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to write him up for Prephoops at the time. Well, I now have the ability to do so. Pai're is an excellent ball handler and facilitator. He was great at pushing the pace and making plays for his teammates. Pai're is a pass first point guard who's capable of being a viable threat offensively. On numerous occasions, he attacked defenders off the dribble and scored in the paint. Pai're showed a knack of drawing in defenders and finding other George Washington players with pin-point assists. He's a good mid-range shooter who took full advantage of his opportunities Saturday evening. Pai're also showed the ability to knock down threes on multiple occasions. On defense, he applied excellent on-ball pressure to the opposition. This led to forced turnovers and plenty of mistakes from the Ben Davis guards. Pai're is an excellent “floor general” who plays a vital role to George Washington's success.
