Today, we'll look at some of the Standout Scorers in from Vermont!

It's been a competitive winter on the hardwood in the Green Mountain State, where there's plenty left to still be decided across the VPA's four divisions.

Here are five Standout Scorers from the VPA this winter:

Lafayette, a senior guard out of Peoples Academy High School, has firmly established himself as one of the top scorers, and prospects, in the VPA. According to MaxPreps, the 6'2" guard is the state's leading scorer, with a 32.3 points per game average (through 10 games worth of accumulated stats). A bigger guard that can play either spot in the back-court, he does a nice job of utilizing a quick first step to get downhill as a driver and finishes at the rim with a good combination of athleticism, power, and skill. He's a tough shot maker in the mid-range, can consistently knock down shots from behind the arc in the half-court, and does a terrific job of moving without the basketball, particularly as a hard cutter that scores off of his movement.

Brown, a junior guard out of Twin Valley Middle High School, has established himself as, maybe, the best scorer in all of Vermont, having already accumulated 1,300 career points with games to go in his junior year. According to MaxPreps, the 6'1" junior is averaging 31.8 points per game through 9 games this season (after averaging 28.4ppg in 21 games as a sophomore). A bigger guard with a strong frame, he does a nice job of getting downhill off the bounce, playing through contact as a driver, and finishing plays around the rim with both creativity and strength. He does a nice job of keeping his dribble alive, draws fouls at a high rate, and shoots a high percentage from the field, three point line, and charity stripe.

Guay, a junior guard out of the West Rutland School, continues to score the basketball at a remarkable rate this winter after scoring his 1,000th point as a sophomore last winter. While his sister is the state's all-time leading scorer, Guay is a bucket getter in his own right and according to MaxPreps, is averaging 24.2 points per game through 11 games this winter. The 6'0" guard does a nice job of playing at different speeds with the ball in his hands, has the ability to score it at all three levels, and has developed his body so that he can play through contact as a driver. He finishes with touch and creativity over size, can make threes off the catch or off the bounce, and does a nice job of creating easy scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates in transition.

Wood, a senior guard out of Rutland High School, is a true floor general that does a great job of getting his team organized in the half-court and of creating easy scoring opportunities for himself and others. At 6'0", he has good size for a lead guard and plays with poise with the ball in his hands. He does a nice job of getting downhill off the bounce, can score in the mid-range in isolation situations, and has the ability to turn the corner and get to the rim as a finisher out of ball screens. When he gets off the ball, he does a nice job of moving off of drives and is a consistent threat from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations. He elevates nicely into his shot, which allows him to get it off in most instances and against most defenders.

Comba, a senior guard out of South Burlington High School, has put his name in the conversation as the best combo guard in the VPA this winter. The 6'0" lefty does a nice job of mixing up the ways he scores, can really makes plays in transition, and has developed into a consistent scorer from behind the arc. He does a nice job of getting downhill as a driver, particularly out of ball screens and DHO actions, has a quick first step in isolations, and is slipper when making his way to the rim with the ball in his hands. He finishes with athleticism and length around the basket, isn't afraid to play through contact, and has shown the ability to make tough, contested shots in the paint when needed.
