To nobody's surprise, [player_tooltip player_id='2124991' first='Gavin' last='Leunen'] has gotten off to an incredible start to the 2025-26 season. The 6-foot-7 junior has been the focal point offensively for Ridgeview and he's delivered, consistently leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Leunen didn't get to this point by default - it's come from some hard work put on this past off-season for sure.

"I mean, getting in the gym almost every day, working on my skills, getting better," Leunen said. "I've been working on my dribbling to work on skills to go blow a lot of players to work on my offensive game to create for my team."

Leunen started off this past spring and summer running with Elite 24 for AAU ball and then spent time attending a number of elite camps. As expected, he shined - which helped him start to scratch the surface in what will be an active college recruitment.

"I got my first offer from Portland State, which was amazing - loved to see it," Leunen said. "And the other camps, I got invited to the ProInsight (Invitaitonal), which is a great experience to see great hoopers like [player_tooltip player_id='2427510' first='Carter' last='Lockhart'], [player_tooltip player_id='2026057' first='Braylon' last='Gaines'] - just all the best hoopers in Oregon and Washington. It went great - I got to play against the best and be the best."

Leunen got his offer from Portland State not long after attending one of the Viking Power Hour workouts during the fall and he's liked what he's seen out of the program this season.

"They work hard and I've been keeping up with their games - they've been playing hard," Leunen said. "They win a lot of games, played a close game against Stanford - they just got a lot of grit, man."

Overall since it's early in the process, Leunen is remaining open. There's no question the school his father Maarty attended and excelled at stands out, but he's listening to all suitors.

"I'm just looking for a high D-I that is looking for a big that will hustle and do anything they want them to," Lenuen said. "I would love to go to Oregon - that would be a dream - but I think I'm looking for like a school out of state to get more experience there."

If Leunen continues to play as he's done so this year - he's averaging over 26 points per game through 10 games - there will be plenty of options to choose from. In the meantime, he's hoping to continue to help the Ravens win games, which they've done at a 6-4 clip so far against a very tough schedule.

"This team, man, is going to be pretty good," Leunen said. "I feel like we've got good chemistry. and we're going to be competing for the top team in the IMC, I'm pretty sure, and hopefully make a playoff run."

Leunen currently ranks as the #4 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2027 rankings.
