Lockhart is easily the most decorated player in the class of 2028, holding multiple high level D1 offers. His play this season supported that status, as he lead a team dealing with a ton of injury issues within a last second made 3 of the state tournament. If healthy, look for Nelson to compete for a state title next season with Lockhart one of the key pieces.

Lockhart remains entrenched at the top spot. The sophomore combo guard has seamlessly fit right in with his new Nelson teammates, getting an opportunity to play both on and off the ball with great results. He’s taken over a lot of the scoring load as star guard Braylon Gaines Braylon Gaines 6'0" | PG Nelson | 2027 State OR has been out with injury, showing great range on his jumper and continuing the ability to score at all three levels. The lefty has done a great job with his passing as well and has posted some high-assist efforts.

Carter Lockhart Carter Lockhart 6'2" | CG/PG Nelson | 2028 State OR wasn’t at full health, but it didn’t stop him from competing at a high level and playing with maximum effort. He came up clutch by knocking down a crucial shot in the closing seconds of the game. A capable on-ball defender and solid all-around shooter, Lockhart finished with 10 points and showed toughness and composure in a big moment.

Lockhart led his team in scoring with 19 points in the game we watched. He’s a smooth scorer with a strong mid-range game and a good-looking, confident shot. Lockhart plays with poise, using his speed and athleticism to create space, and he extends his range beyond the arc. A team-first guard, he combines calm decision-making with scoring versatility to impact the game in multiple ways.

Overall it was a balanced effort as Nelson got past North Medford, but Lockhart led the way in his first game in a Hawks uniform. The sophomore guard didn’t have it going with the three necessarily only hitting one, but adjusted his game and looked to utilize his mid-range jumper for his points, which looked incredibly smooth and natural off the bounce. Sharing ball-handling and passing duties with teammate Jaydon Schregardus Jaydon Schregardus 5'11" | CG Nelson | 2027 State OR in the absence of the injured Braylon Gaines Braylon Gaines 6'0" | PG Nelson | 2027 State OR , Lockhart dished out a couple of assists to go along with his 21 total points.

Lockhart is a balanced lefty guard who shows all the skill to affect the game in various ways. Mainly on display at the Pop-Up was his quickness and shooting, and often the potency of those two things together. He’s quick and can cover ground with his crossovers with good bursts north and south, but also has an incredibly quick dribble-to-shot time that he showed off with pull-ups and step-backs. Also displayed his passing ability with some great touch passes to guys cutting through the defense or flaring off screens, measuring the weight and precision of the pass near perfect. (RM)

Carter Lockhart Carter Lockhart 6'2" | CG/PG Nelson | 2028 State OR is a natural scoring point guard who has shown he can run a team and make plays in high-pressure moments. He was the de facto floor general for NW Rotary this summer, handling ball pressure and traps with poise and confidence. He was great at creating for others and feeding the hot hand.

Offensively, Lockhart is comfortable creating his own shot off the dribble utilizing his sidestep into and step-back into his jumper. He also uses his step-back-hesi to then accelerate and get downhill. Carter plays with great pace and knows how to shift gears to keep defenders off balance.

Last season, as a freshman, he played on a loaded and experienced Central Catholic squad featuring three to four D1-bound players. He did an amazing job fitting in and playing off of talent upperclassmen. This year he will be the focal points at Nelson High alongside of Braylon Gaines Braylon Gaines 6'0" | PG Nelson | 2027 State OR . After a great summer, look for Nelson to make a deep run 

Lockhart, ranked #1 in the state for the 2028 class, lived up to the hype as he continued to dominate offensively. He was doing a little bit of everything as he got to the rim with ease, getting some assists and steals as well. Carter also set up his scrimmage teammate Kaiden Wilson Kaiden Wilson 6'5" | SF Redondo Union | 2027 State CA-S for an off-the-backboard lob dunk that got their team going.

Lockhart remains at the top of the list after a solid freshman campaign at Central Catholic. Despite playing on a team stacked with talent, the 6-foot-1 guard was immediately a rotation player and then in mid-season when star guard Bam Paschal went down, Lockhart stepped into the starting lineup. The lefty is one of the top perimeter shooters and scorers in the class and is extremely skilled with the basketball. He’s been getting solid minutes with NW Rotary on the EYBL 15U circuit so far this spring.
