Prince George's County is known for its rich basketball talent no matter how far back in history you look. This season is no different as there are over a dozen prospects off to hot starts as we approach the halfway point in the schedule. We start with arguably the most impressive handful as we continue our series going through each county and spotlighting the standouts from the public school sector.

While Central as a team has found some struggles to stack up wins, Ezra Jackson has been a bright spot as the junior guard put together a nice body of work over the first handful or so of games. The 6-foot lead guard posted averages of 25.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as he consistently found ways to the rim tapping into his bursty first step or dialing in with craft around the bucket to avoid defenders in the air. He's certainly a drive-first threat at this stage, but any scorer who can put up points in bunches like him has the confidence to knock down open ones from outside as well if forgotten about. He's a stout defender in open space where his quick feet and active hands cause plenty of deflections.

Dyches has built off a strong summer where he helped [program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover'] National to a MADE Hoops Circuit title as his two-way presence as a combo guard was invaluable. His strong frame allows him to slide down multiple positions defensively and now as one of the focal points for this Potomac team, he has the confidence offensively as being the primary option while leading to wins as they sit 8-4 overall. The 6-foot-2 dual-sport standout has done a nice job touching different categories of the box score with averages of 17.3 points, 4.7 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game through the first 10. He can get into gaps with a quick first step and absorb contact around the rim while maintaining balance for finishes. He's able to break his man down in iso's, pose as a catch-and-shoot threat from three and does a nice job of processing on his paint touches to find bigs or cutters along the baseline as much of the defense's attention is focued on him.

Ashe is a seasoned junior with two years of varsity basketball under his belt, accomplishing a rare feat of back-to-back state championships. The Lions will have a chance to pursue a three-peat with Ashe at the controls alongside his backcourt mate [player_tooltip player_id='2453724' first='Jalen' last='Johnson']. The 6-foot lead guard is dynamic and can take what the defense gives him to establish advantages. He's quick from the point of attack and when you combine his burst out of crossovers or counters, it's tough sledding for his defender to keep him at bay for multiple possessions at a time. He's a blur in the open floor and is always looking to put pressure on the rim before throwing a lob to one of his high-flying teammates. Ashe can also finish the job himself with creative layups if the situation calls for it. His efficiency as a shooter has improved from last season both off the dribble and spotting up, but his presence isn't only felt on the offensive side. His ability to pressure the ball without fouling, actively anticipate in passing lanes and also help out on the boards from the point guard position all go into making his production vital to winning a tough PG County crown and beyond.

I've been impressed with the strides that Echebi has shown as we're in the midway point of the season. The 6-foot-6 14-year-old looks the part of a sophomore or junior with his build, strength and know-how, but luckily for Rodney Ward, he'll have plenty of time to work with the promising freshman. This isn't to put unrealistic expectations on Echebi, but from an ascetic standpoint, there are a lot of similarities in his game with former Largo legend Cam Ward (Michigan State). He's a powerful finisher above the rim and has found his niche as a screener or active mover without the ball on the baseline to play off Ashe or Johnson's paint touches. Echebi is a prideful rebounder, alters shots around the bucket and plays with a high motor given his young age.

Another member of the [program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover'] National squad who plays a more involved overall role on his high school team, Morton is always a prospect that catches my eye with the balance he can provide on or off the ball for the Golden Tigers. He's the engine and leads in many statistical categories as through the first nine games, averaged 15.1 points (63% FG), 5.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.1 steals per game. Morton is a capable shot-maker from deep and uses that threat to his advantage to attack his defender off the bounce. He's effective at gaining and maintaining an edge on drives with the ability to contort his body on finishes at the cup. He's another skilled guard on this list who can adjust his game based on the defense's schemes, but can also dictate pace or coverages with how his scoring/distributing takes place shortly after tip-off.
