-One of the better jump shooters in PG County, our scouts enjoyed watching Morton this season as a scoring combo guard that could hit shots from all 3 levels. Liked his pace coming off of ball screens as he could hit pull-up elbow jumpers going either direction from both sides of the floor. He was efficient off the catch, found opportunities to reward bigs for running the floor with shovel passes in transition, and kept firing whether the jumpers were falling on that particular day or not.

Amir has had a strong first half of the season and has quietly become one of the most complete guards in his class. He controls the offense with a steady pace, makes reads on-the-fly, and plays with the type of poise that settles his whole team down. Morton’s scoring has been reliable because he can get it done on all three levels, and he’s strong enough to finish drives without getting knocked off his line. He’s also been a major transition threat, reading passing lanes and turning defense into offense consistently. Amir’s season has been defined by production and balance, and he looks like the kind of guard who can flirt with a triple double any given night.

Another member of the Team Takeover National squad who plays a more involved overall role on his high school team, Morton is always a prospect that catches my eye with the balance he can provide on or off the ball for the Golden Tigers. He’s the engine and leads in many statistical categories as through the first nine games, averaged 15.1 points (63% FG), 5.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.1 steals per game. Morton is a capable shot-maker from deep and uses that threat to his advantage to attack his defender off the bounce. He’s effective at gaining and maintaining an edge on drives with the ability to contort his body on finishes at the cup. He’s another skilled guard on this list who can adjust his game based on the defense’s schemes, but can also dictate pace or coverages with how his scoring/distributing takes place shortly after tip-off.

for the CMIT North team. Between his incredible production and leadership by example, it’s difficult to say anything other than positives. At 6-foot 1, Morton is an incredibly polished, refined player. He’s smart, quick, and has the ball on a string, which allows him to get wherever he wants off the bounce. Morton is a reliable creator, both for himself and others, and quality decision-maker with the ball in his hands. He’s a willing playmaker who sees the floor well yet often needs to apply scoring pressure to keep this group at its most competitive. Fortunately, Morton can do so in several ways. He’s a quality perimeter shooter who can knock down jumpers off the catch or bounce. Morton does a great job of breaking down opponents and accessing his midrange pull-up or finishing at the basket. He’s a scrappy defender with the ability to force turnovers at the point of attack. Morton is a potential scholarship level prospect to watch in the 2nd half of the season. Scored 20 points in the championship game against CH Flowers.

Every time I see Morton play with this CMIT North group I walk away pleased with his play and production. That was the case once again this weekend as the 6-foot-2 combo guard helped lead his team to two wins on Sunday behind just under 15PPG. Morton provides balance as both a scorer and playmaker. He can settle things down as the opposition attempts to trap or speed things up with pressure. Morton made his presence known defensively as well in the passing lanes using his instinctual timing and anticipation to intercept deliveries and spark transition points for his team. Morton’s name is still flying under the radar, but should be a name that college coaches do due diligence on.

Mr. Do-It-All for CMIT North. The junior combo guard has two triple-doubles on the season and we’re only halfway through. He attacks the glass, filling up rebounds quickly over time. Always has his head up to find his Roosevelt teammates open around the floor. He can run the 1-guard or 2-guard effectively but is very impactful on the ball running the show. Good jumpshooter with the ability to pull-up on a dime in the midrange. Has a float game in between the midrange and the paint, with sneaky strength to finish at the rim amongst bigs. Solid defender that puts forth energy on each end all game long.
