Weather is causing havoc all over the state. A game that was supposed to be played on Saturday at the Quincy Shootout got moved to Friday at East St. Louis as the Flyers hosted Oak Cliff Family First who is an EYBL Scholastic program out of Dallas, TX. Good test for East St. Louis that will help them in March. They got down early and kept clawing back with a couple runs, but Oak Cliff took this one 77-62. We dive into it in 5 Takeaways: Oak Cliff vs East St. Louis!

Oak Cliff 2028 Class Stellar

Super impressed in our first look at the Oak Cliff Family First sophomore trio of [player_tooltip player_id='2634958' first='Josiah' last='Rose'], [player_tooltip player_id='2834388' first='Xavier' last='Young'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2194547' first='Maxwell' last='Moody']. Rose is a 6'3” shooting guard who has potential superstar written all over him! He is a lefty with a strong and athletic frame. Explosive and powerful downhill slasher getting to the rim with excellent body control at the cup. He can really shoot it from distance as well connecting on five triples in the win. Shoots it with a lot of confidence and clean mechanics. Crisp passer as well and rebounds for a guard. He led the way with 22 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2834388' first='Xavier' last='Young'] is a 6'9” 210 pound five man that has a super bright future! He has broad shoulders, good length, and is an explosive finisher as he threw down three massive slams for 6 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2194547' first='Maxwell' last='Moody'] sparked his team with 13 points in the victory. The 2028 guard is plus shooter from three that hit a trio of them including a deep one to close the half.

Wake Forest Commit Shows Promise

Their top senior talents are the Placide twins [player_tooltip player_id='1509230' first='Gavin' last='Placide'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1509231' first='Gallagher' last='Placide'] who are committed to Wake Forest. Like what we saw out of Gavin as he threw down a couple dunks early, rebounded in his area, and had a high/low seal. The skill is there for these two to impact next season at Wake.

Miles is Sharp Shooting Sleeper Out of Texas in 2027

Maurius Miles was stellar shooting it from long distance for Oak Cliff as the 2027 wing with a strong frame buried three after three. Deep range and got it off with ease as he scored 15 points. Seems to be an under the radar name to emerge.

Penn State Commit Posts Numbers Against National Talent

[player_tooltip player_id='1873523' first='Jamison' last='White'] showed he could shine against national talent during the summer especially at Peach Jam. He did that again in this contest against a team loaded with high-major players. The East St. Louis power forward pounded the offensive glass and hit some tough jumpers. At times settled a little too much for contested shots where even against this level of competition it is clear he can take it right at them with his strength and athleticism. Flashed on the defensive end as well notching 24 points.

Johnson and Jones Bring Pop in Flyers Backcourt

We know what White is going to bring every night. The Flyers success in March will be dependent on how fast his brother returns along with the play of their backcourt in senior [player_tooltip player_id='2822953' first='Alex' last='Johnson'] and fast rising junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2962335' first='Phillip' last='Jones']. Johnson is a smooth operator at the two guard spot with a clean jumper and has proven to be a scrappy rebounder with a nose for the ball. He had 17 points. Jones continues to boost his stock in 2027 as he is a quick guard that can get downhill off the bounce, push in transition, and showed off the athleticism on a big tip slam notching 11 points.
