We have just at a month left of the season before tournament play starts. Teams continue to show their dominance, while some teams are flailing as the season goes. Others have been surprises of the year. Here is Volume 2 of the Southwest Indiana Power Rankings.

Honorable Mention: Bloomfield | Evansville Mater Dei | Evansville Reitz | Linton | Loogootee | Northeast Dubois

10. Jasper (9-4)

The Wildcats enter the rankings as one of the surprising teams in the area. Behind the strong play of Sophomore Guard Riley Foy, Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='1560974' first='Logan' last='Day'], and Junior Forward [player_tooltip player_id='2882765' first='Jaylen' last='Maners'], Jasper has won 9 out of their last 11 games defeating Gibson Southern and Corydon Central along the way as notable wins.

9. Evansville Harrison (8-5)

The Evansville Harrison Warriors come in at the #9 spot as another team that got off to a bit of a slow start, but winners of their last four, the Warriors are really an eye test worthy team for me. Led by a trio of underclassmen in 6'5” Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2889976' first='Romyiez' last='Calvin'], 6'1” Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='3253027' first='Aiden' last='Terry'], and 6'2” Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2821857' first='Amaury' last='Harrell'], the Warriors have beat quality opponents as well as having as bright of a future as any team in the area.

8. Mount Vernon (Posey) (10-5)

After a slow start battling through injuries, the Mount Vernon Wildcats have been playing as well as any team in the area. A veteran group that plays six seniors led by 6'2” Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2213017' first='Meyer' last='Robb'] averaging 16.1 points per game have been winners of 8 of their last nine with quality wins over a good 1A Hauser team as well as a talented Forest Park team that has been injury plagued.

7. Barr-Reeve (13-1)

The machine that is Barr-Reeve Vikings Basketball continues on in the Heath Howington Era. The Vikings are 13-1 with their lone loss coming to a good 3A Brownstown Central team. The Vikings aren't going anywhere either as their top six scorers are sophomores and juniors led by 6'0” Sophomore Guard [player_tooltip player_id='3148411' first='Jaylon' last='Graber'] at 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

6. Evansville Bosse (8-6)

The record doesn't blow you away, but look at the difficulty of the schedule that Evansville Bosse plays. In their six losses, those teams are a combined 62-22 on the season. No bad losses with quality wins over Jasper, Columbus North, Evansville North, and Princeton. The Bulldogs have one of the most talented rosters in the area. Dealing with transfers getting eligible along with a few minor injuries along the way, Evansville Bosse should be right there in the end to compete for a sectional championship.

5. Boonville Pioneers (11-3)

The Boonville Pioneers are off to their best start since the 2001-2002 season where they started 12-3. With the only bad losses on the résumé to a winless Castle team at the time and to a 5-9 Washington team on the road, The Pioneers were rolling and got back on track with a convincing win over Evansville Mater Dei. The Junior Class for the Pioneers have carried the load behind the Big 3 of [player_tooltip player_id='2140326' first='Bradyn' last='Egli'], [player_tooltip player_id='2622245' first='Cash' last='Willis'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2140389' first='Jaxon' last='McKain'].

T-3. Heritage Hills (12-4)

Outside of one baffling loss on the road to a 5-9 Washington team, this Patriots team has the talent to play with anybody in the area. It feels like a cop out to have a tie at 3rd place, but this is where I have settled on the Patriots. With good wins over Mount Vernon, Boonville, and Gibson Southern to go with the talent on their roster led by University of Saint Francis Commit [player_tooltip player_id='1560951' first='Jake' last='Prior'], the Patriots are one of the more dangerous teams in the area.

T-3. Gibson Southern (10-4)

Like I said, it feels like a cop out to have a tie at 3rd Place. Heritage Hills and Gibson Southern played a tremendous 62-61 last second victory for the Patriots. Despite that loss, Gibson Southern is 10-4 with no bad losses on the résumé. Led by the Big 3 of Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2978386' first='Cam' last='Truxal'], Junior Wing [player_tooltip player_id='2140411' first='Kolton' last='Schmitt'], and Junior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2891750' first='Reece' last='Runyan'], the Titans have all the pieces to compete in the 3A Tournament.

2. Princeton (12-3)

The Tigers have hit their stride in the last month going 5-1 in the month of January with the lone loss coming on the road to a fully healthy Evansville Bosse. The duo of Indiana Junior All-Star [player_tooltip player_id='1560964' first='Edwin' last='Holmes'] and sensational Sophomore Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2539928' first='Quintyn' last='Voltz'], the Tigers are primed to make another run at the Class 3A semi-state.

1. Evansville North (12-2)

The Evansville North Huskies have the best résumé. The Huskies started the season 6-0 before a 1-2 trip to the Fishers Holiday Tournament where they defeated Chesterton before losing their next two games to Nationally Ranked Fishers and to Evansville Bosse. Since then, the Huskies have been back to their winning ways with a 5-0 record in January with a big matchup with 4A Ranked New Albany visiting on January 30th.
