Millennium made the cross-country trek from Arizona led by a trio of high-major recruits and outlasted a feisty Christ the King group at the annual HoopHall Classic in Springfield. The Tigers were led by sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='2370259' first='Terry' last='McKinney III'] with a game-high 23 points, while CTK countered with senior big man [player_tooltip player_id='3417333' first='Filip' last='Runjo'] scoring 19 points inside.

McKinney was dominant from start to finish as CTK had no answer for his versatility at the forward position. He earned game MVP honors while scoring 23 points on a hyper-efficient 10-for-14 shooting, hauling in eight rebounds and adding in a pair of steals and blocks. The wing forward was a matchup nightmare, attacking the rim from the perimeter, facing up inside the arc, running out in transition, or working the baseline as a cutter. He flashed ability to stretch the floor out to the arc as well. We'd previously seen McKinney in more of a point forward role in AAU, so it was good to see his ability to thrive without the ball in his hands in a different setting. Looking increasingly athletic and in great shape, McKinney is trending up as a high-major prospect in 2028.

Considered among the elite scoring guards in his class nationally, Diggs served notice as to why he's so highly regarded with a silky-smooth 16 points. Looking perhaps a bit taller than when we'd seen him last, Diggs put on a clinic with his midrange game, hunting his spots efficiently with a polished handle and pristine footwork before elevating into a textbook high release. Particularly impressive was the way he incorporated his 1-on-1 attacks into the general flow of the offense. Diggs also used his length to rake in a trio of steals while flashing some feel as a passer and overall letting the game come to him maturely. He should have a slew of offers from across the country when all is said and done.

While he took a backseat as a scorer, Holmes nonetheless was a two-way force while helping to engineer the win. The Arizona commit stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 7 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks, operating up and down the lineup on both ends and demonstrating evident leadership traits for his younger co-stars. Holmes spent time initiating the offense, using his size and vision to pick things apart as a passer. He wreaked havoc on the other end, guarding a number of CTK counterparts while using his instincts and physical tools to make plays on that end and kickstart the Tigers' transition attack. When needed in the second half, he stepped up with a number of key buckets to help keep the Royals at bay. It was an impactful performance for Holmes despite the modest scoring total.

An emerging X-factor within the CHSAA, Runjo continued a strong start to the year with a workmanlike 19 points up front. The native of Serbia and Grand River Academy (OH) transfer took advantage of a smaller Millennium frontcourt while sticking to his bread-and-butter interior game. Runjo showed soft touch with either hand and swift footwork while navigating traffic in the paint. He used his size and heft to haul in seven rebounds (four offensive) and block a pair of shots as well. Scholarship-level programs up to the low D1 level that put an emphasis on post play would be wise to take a look at Runjo down the stretch of the season.

Another quickly-emerging piece of the Royals' rotation, Ellis has stepped up as a reliable double-figure scorer on the perimeter and impressed again with a smooth 11-point performance. Playing every second of the game, Ellis played with the poise and maturity of an upperclassman despite being just 15 years old, picking his spots efficiently and generating his points within the flow of the offense. He made quick decisions whether to shoot or move the ball while posing a dangerous threat as a floor spacer and knocking down two of his five attempts from long range. It looks like only a matter of time before Ellis emerges onto scholarship radars, as he continues to trend up as a potential D1 prospect.
