A young, scrappy Cedar Rapids Kennedy team gave 3A #8 Wahlert Catholic everything it could handle on Friday night, but Wahlert closed the game on a 7-0 run to come away with a 64-57 win. Wahlert improved to 8-3 with the win, while Kennedy fell to 4-6.

Herrig was excellent for the Golden Eagles, scoring a game-high 17 points on 6-9 shooting (3-5 3P, 2-2 FT). A 6-4/6-5 wing with a pure stroke from the 3-point line, he was able to use his size to his advantage, shooting over smaller defenders. He's an athletic wing who can play with or without the ball in his hands, showing some shot creation off the dribble as well as shooting it off the catch.

In addition to his scoring output, Herrig impacted the game in other ways, finishing with 7 rebounds, including several big offensive boards, 3 assists, and a steal.

Wedewer struggled with his shot for a majority of the night, entering the fourth quarter scoreless on 0-8 shooting. But he was great in the fourth quarter, scoring all 11 of his points, knocking down a pair of big-time 3s, and going 5-6 from the free-throw line to help ice the game away. The most impressive aspect of Wedewer's game, however, was that he didn't allow his poor shooting night to impact the rest of his game. He had 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals, showing that he's able to have an impact on the outcome of a game even when his shot isn't falling.

The next McKowen boy to come through Kennedy, Drew physically looks like a junior or senior with how strong he is, especially in the lower body. His legs are tree trunks, and he's an explosive, bouncy athlete who can block shots, compete on the glass, and finish through contact at the rim. A tough, athletic guard who plays great on-ball defense, he's a capable shooting threat but is at his best when he's using his speed, handles, and toughness to play downhill and finish at the rim.

He had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and a block for the Cougars.

The younger Tanny brother, Alex came off the bench to score 6 points on 3-3 shooting for Wahlert. A 6-7/6-8 big man with great hands and soft touch around the rim, he does a really good job sealing his man and establishing good post position. When he catches the ball, he keeps it high and doesn't allow defenders to take it from him by bringing it low unnecessarily. He's a bit stiff athletically at this point, probably still growing into his body a bit, but there is some real potential here.

The older Tanny brother, Brayden is a tough, well-built combo forward who is tenacious on the glass on both ends of the floor. He does a great job using his big, physical frame to control the painted area on both ends, and he's a good passer out of the mid-to-high-post area, dishing out 4 assists out of that spot. He shot just 1-4 from the floor against Kennedy, but was 11-14 from the free-throw line, which suggests that he could add some range to his game. He had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals for the Golden Eagles in the win.
