There are a ton of big games tonight all around the state. We predict seven of them now and give you the key match-ups.

And to read, use the holiday code "RyanJames30"

3AAAA Tartan at 4AAAA Hopkins - continuation of the game, 60-50 Tartan lead

[player_tooltip player_id='2560499' first='Kevin' last='Wilson Jr.'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2560534' first='Tre' last='Moore']. We are talking about two of the best sophomore guards in the state if not THE two best sophomore guards in the state. Wilson is playing at an elite level and will start this game sitting at 23 points.

Prediction. Tartan 80 Hopkins 71. This is quite a bit of cheating as the game starts at 60-50 with 9:13 to go but this is where things are at. Imagine being able to plan a game for several days knowing you have a ten point lead with nine minutes to go. Tartan is the pick.

2AAAA Maple Grove at 6AAAA Alexandria

[player_tooltip player_id='1560739' first='Max' last='Iversen'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2118449' first='Mason' last='Witt']. All state level Class AAA players from years past are now potential all state level Class AAAA players. Iversen and Witt are long time varsity players with quick releasing, high percentage touches. Max is headed to NDSU, Mason is still working towards a destination.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126467' first='Baboucarr' last='Ann'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2115657' first='Gavin' last='Roderick']. Gavin recently had a 46 point game against Sartell. Now Gavin gets to face one of the elite defenders in the state of Minnesota in the high major offered junior (Ann).

Prediction. Maple Grove 85 Alexandria 82. I think this will be an outstanding game after the Crimson drive two hours north, and props to them for that. Nobody wants to play Alex early (their zone is tough to prep for, especially early in the year) and throw in the drive. But this Crimson team is smart and balanced with shooters all over.

1AA Goodhue at Rushford-Peterson

[player_tooltip player_id='2126149' first='Cayden' last='Lea'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='1951088' first='Luke' last='Roschen']. At this point these two have to be quite familiar with one another, these are guards that lead this teams respectively.

Prediction. Goodhue 83 Rushford-Peterson 72. The [program_tooltip program_id='2075965' first='Trojans' last=''] have been scoring 80+ most nights and they are at home, but I don't know that they can take out the number one team in the state in Class AA. Quite note, both teams were in Section 1A last year, now they are both in 1AA.

Eden Prairie at Waconia

[player_tooltip player_id='1560851' first='Hamze' last='Yusuf'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='1560741' first='Will' last='Kirsch']. Two very hot hands, two of the best players in the state that are not signed yet. Both will have the ball a ton and both are off to great starts this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2119596' first='Cooper' last='Fahning'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2493846' first='Luke' last='Hill']. Cooper has about three inches on Hill, Hill has the strength edge. Fahning is working his way to the All State Defensive team, Hill is on that senior surprise all state team.

Prediction. Eden Prairie 82 Waconia 81. This is a huge game in section 2AAAA as right now these are the best two teams in that section. The results of this game could be huge to section seeding and I think the winner could be a top ten team soon. EP I think has a bit deeper talent, but Waconia is home. I have not seen EP yet but I do know that the Cats look well coaches. I would imagine EP has been coached up too based on their results.

Cannon Falls at 10AAA Stewartville

Grady Meyers vs [player_tooltip player_id='2393884' first='Dexter' last='Simmons']. At about 6'6/6'7 Simmons is one of the most productive freshmen the state scoring 12/13 points a game. Meyers is a 6'4, 210 pound physical post that plays tight end and linebacker as a senior in football, now he is tasked with battling the frosh big.

Lukas Nelson/Cayden Heydt vs [player_tooltip player_id='3102116' first='Ryan' last='Hjellming']/[player_tooltip player_id='2569260' first='Miles' last='Rechtzigel']. These are the veteran guards for each of these teams. Cannon Falls pry is a bit more talented in the backcourt.

Prediction. Stewartville 87 Cannon Falls 76. Cannon Falls may have more high end talent in the backcourt but Stewartville is simply the deeper basketball team and will get a double figure win.

Lakeville North at 8AAAA Apple Valley

[player_tooltip player_id='2140675' first='Owen' last='Brezinski'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2416949' first='Tyrese' last='Hutton']. These are juniors that have worked their way into the line-up after playing JV last year, and I believe they are 16u teammates with the Fury. Owen leads the Panthers in scoring, Hutton is starting and is their third leading scorer.

Prediction. Apple Valley 76 Lakeville North 69. I think North can win if they can make the shots for [player_tooltip player_id='1560866' first='Camare'' last='Young'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2271330' first='Trey' last='Parker'] tough, the Eagles aren't getting much scoring elsewhere. But I believe AV will WIN because they have guards to pressure, and the Panthers don't have much for guard playmaking.

Farmington at 10AAA Lakeville South

[player_tooltip player_id='2175464' first='Kale' last='Flees']/[player_tooltip player_id='2381974' first='Blake' last='Johnson']/[player_tooltip player_id='2401364' first='Benny' last='Fenske'] vs Nate Owata/[player_tooltip player_id='1560811' first='Collin' last='Johnson']/[player_tooltip player_id='1560820' first='Oliver' last='Haberman']. Who are these guys? Players that played from the deep bench last year or on JV, or both, and are now having strong SENIOR seasons. These are seniors. Flees, Johnson and Fenske are all scoring between 12-14 points a game while Owata is scoring 15 a night as a 6'6 big.

Prediction. Farmington 71 Lakeville South 70. Why Farmington? Because I picked South over Farmington for the top ten this week so naturally the opposite will happen in the result. That's how close games work in the South Suburban!
