Colby G's Weekend Notebook: Standout 2027 Guards

Over the weekend I was able to spend some time at three separate events, getting eyes on dozens of prospects from over a handful of states. As the dust settles from the busy three days, it's time to start highlighting some of the names that stood out and there's no better place than shining some light on available seniors. After highlighting the <a href="https://prephoops.com/2025/12/colby-gs-weekend-notebook-best-available-2026-guards/">best available 2026 guards</a> Monday, <a href="https://prephoops.com/2025/12/colby-gs-weekend-notebook-best-available-2026-wings-bigs/">2026 wings and bigs yesterday</a> and today, I'll shift gears to the guards from the 2027 class.    Scott's name was trending significantly among private school programs after a productive summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover'] on the EYBL Circuit. Instead, the 6-foot-2 guard has remained loyal to Meade and has set the early tone as the best guard in the Maryland public school sector. If there were any doubts in that statement, they were erased after his showing Saturday morning in a win over Loyola Blakefield (MD) as he posted a ridiculous stat line of 37 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals. As the box score indicates, Scott's overall skillset continues to round out nicely as the smaller aspects such as adjusting his scoring approach based on the flow of the game unfolds. Scott is in the top-15, but could see a healthy boost in the next update with sustained production.     Another strong showing from Green on Friday night in a 38-point win over Phoenix Montessori (NC). He set the tone from the opening tip that he would be the one controlling the game on both ends from the guard position. Green was vocal in organizing the half court offensive sets, communicating off the ball defensively to ensure everyone was in the correct coverage, and brought some passion after making plays for himself around the rim through contact. Simply put, Green looked like the type of leader a coach would want his lead guard to have while making plays on both end of the floor both for himself and others. He finished with 14 points, eight steals, seven assists, and six rebounds.     Another guard that understands how to properly control a game is Nelson and when he's playing with the pace and persistence that he brought in St. Andrew's showing against McDonogh on Saturday, it usually ends up in his team's favor. That was the case as they'd walk away with a 66-53 victory and thanks to Nelson's ability to impact the game with his shot-making off the bounce, it opened up opportunities for him to set up others as the defense made stopping him their first priority. His processing, deliveries off the live dribble, and keeping his foot on the gas throughout made for a game that was never in question.     Wingfield is coming off a loud sophomore season with Wilde Lake as he transitions back to the private school scene with a new sense of confidence behind his overall game. Always been known as a dead-eye shooter, the 6-foot-3 guard made his impact known early in their win over McDonogh and as defenders started sprinting to him on closeouts, Wingfield put it on the deck for 1-to-2 bounces before rising up from 15 feet with balance. He has good IQ and does a nice job of processing off the ball before the catch to take advantage of the rotating defense's exposed gaps. Wingfield followed Nelson in this win with 18 points.
