Dayton Dunbar came out and played aggressive, physical basketball that allowed them to simply overpower their opposition at the rim. Whitfield fits that style of play perfectly as a bully-ball style lefty guard who wants to play through contact on the offensive end of the court. Dayton Dunbar also thrived in the open court where Whitfield had a handful of easy assists to open teammates. A scrappy group, Dayton Dunbar's relentless defense and ability to score on the fast break will make them a tough out this season.

Brunswick has gotten off to a hot start this season and their senior guard duo of Barnett and [player_tooltip player_id='1708688' first='Trey' last='Drexler'] is the biggest reason why. Barnett is an elite 3-point shooter who was knocking down shots off the catch and bounce on Sunday. I also liked that Barnett dove on the ground for a loose ball and was flying around the court. Brunswick still has a lot of games at marquee events for fans to see them across the state.

In a big time battle between OCC powerhouses, Upper Arlington got a hard-fought win over New Albany in a game that was tight throughout. Mitchell did a nice job scoring as a spot-up shooter, attacking closeouts and in the pick and roll. Mitchell does a nice job on step backs by creating contact with his defender before getting the space to fire away. I also really liked how Mitchell used his left hand to finish at the rim, a guard you cannot force one direction off the dribble. The Golden Bears had a great weekend with wins over conference rival Olentangy Orange and New Albany.

In the game of the weekend at the 5 C's Classic, Hill was sensational in the second half with some clutch buckets to help Lutheran East secure their second victory over a top central Ohio team this season at a neutral site event. Hill hit the game-winning mid-range shot with 7 seconds left on the clock despite losing the basketball on his drive. Those were the types of plays he was making all second half as Hill was able to get to the rim attacking left or hit a mid-range pull-up. One of the top defensive guards in Ohio, Hill loved the physicality that was brought by both teams in a battle of reigning state champions.

In the final game of the night, the rematch of last year's Division I state semifinal certainly lived up to the hype. It was fascinating that Combs made such a huge difference as one of the few new faces who didn't play in the thrilling game last season. Combs has the frame and strength to guard forwards or wings and bothered players at multiple positions from Reynoldsburg with his physicality. In transition, Combs can play above the rim and adds a different dynamic that the Firebirds didn't have last season from the wing forward position. Toss in a 18 foot pull-up and a clutch drop off assist and Combs was a key reason why Lakota West came out on top.

Nobody came out the gates hotter than Bowens on Sunday night as he threw down a couple monster dunks to get the packed house on their feet. One of the more explosive bigs in the OHSAA, Bowens gets up on the rim in a hurry. In the second quarter Bowens also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, a key swing skill for him at the next level. With a pair of OU commits, Reynoldsburg is once again one of the most talented teams in the OHSAA.

Youngstown Ursuline had a nice weekend with wins over Canfield and Pickerington Central. Gunther is an elite creator at the high school level, with nobody on the Tigers able to stay in front of him while he was dribbling. Gunther pulling a Nash dribble and scoring was the textbook example of how nobody could stop him from getting where he wanted to. Able to draw two defenders and kickout to teammates all across the court, Gunther can zip the ball to any area on time and on target. After starting the game cold as a shooter, Gunther caught fire in the second quarter and kept that momentum throughout the game with some nasty pull-up jumpers. One of the top point guards in Ohio's 2027 class, Gunther holds a handful of Division I offers.
