We are only a week away from the first games of the 2025-26 KHSAA basketball season. The excitement level for this year is high. This is the first time in a few years that we haven't had a few teams that are clearly ahead of the pack in the race for the state title. I am going to be previewing all 16 regions by breaking down the top 5 teams and the top 5 college prospects in each region. Being a top 5 college prospect and being a top 5 player in the region are not the same thing. There are a lot of really good high school players in Kentucky who are not necessarily great college prospects.

Our top ranked 2027, Gay has earned several D1 offers since July. A big wing who has been shooting the ball at a high level, Montez is capable of scoring at a high level and is an exceptional defender thanks to his size and strength.

A transfer into GRC over the summer, Akins holds several D1 offers already and has been impressive in scrimmages leading up to this season. A strong lefty driver, Ryder does a little bit of everything and does it all at a high level.

One of the top 2028s in the state, Andrew is big and strong and a good leaper. He can step out and shoot the ball also. Terry is an exceptional passer and can handle the ball in the open court as well. He has a very high floor as a prospect.

Tyce has the highest ceiling of anyone on this list because he's such an explosive athlete. While he doesn't shoot the three great, Jarvis is a solid shooter who is getting better and better as a ball handler and playmaker. He has all the tools to be a top player in the state this season.

I still believe that Austin is the best player in the state that almost no one knows about. If Davie lived in Lexington or Louisville, he would have a lot more hype than he does. He's big and strong and continues to raise his skill level. My favorite aspect to Davie is his motor. Which never stops running, it seems.
