On Thursday, October 23rd I spent a day watching the National Scholastic Prep Association at the Phhacility in Phoenix, AZ. I watched five local AZ teams and here were the players that stood out.

NSPA: Top Combo Guards Viewed

[player_tooltip player_id='1945207' first='Dominic' last='Rudd'] Paragon Prep (Pictured)

A shifty smooth guard can play on or off the ball. He can create some separation with his tighter handle to get his shot off. He will shoot it from the three point line and get to the FT line with his speed. He handles contact well despite a leaner frame and will score with either hand. He has a knack for getting himself to the charity stripe and made a few needle threaders in the lane.

[player_tooltip player_id='1323294' first='Will' last='Gordon'] AZ Compass Prep

A bigger scoring combo guard who can score from all three levels. He will hit the three off the catch, he will dunk it in the lane and gets into the paint and makes a play. He likes getting downhill in traffic and can pull-up. He is also a tough on-ball defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='2147242' first='Isaac' last='McNair'] Premier Prep Tucson

A hyper athletic scoring guard with some size and skill. He will drive by his defender with a quick spin move, score with rip thrus and dunk it impressively on the break. He will also hit shots from the three point line. He defends multiple positions for the Tucson based team.

[player_tooltip player_id='2698739' first='Dereon' last='Smothers'] Phhoenix Prep NSPA

A bigger sized combo guard is a top end rebounder for a guard and his size bothers his opponents along with his length, quicker feet and hands. He can get downhill to the basket and will hit the three. He is a potential 3 and D type down the road.

[player_tooltip player_id='2574805' first='Jaeden' last='Mahendrarajah'] Bella Vista Prep

A good sized combo guard can make some plays for his teammates but he is a natural scorer. He will score with cuts off the ball, hit shots from mid-range with tough pull-ups off the dribble and he will rattle in triples with a nice shooting stroke.

[player_tooltip player_id='2960993' first='Dalen' last='Felder'] Phhoenix Prep NSPA

A scoring lead guard can also play on or off the ball. He scores with quick drives to the paint and hit the mid-range pull-up off the dribble, which is his pet move. He will score with a dribble drive into a euro step, mid-range jumpers and shows good post footwork.
