There has never been a Mr Basketball award winner from the Ivy League and Singleton will hope to change that as the Harvard commit is a dominant force on both ends of the court. Impressing in the state championship game for a team that was unbeaten heading into the game as a junior certainly puts Singleton fresh in the mind of voters who saw him put on a remarkable performance Vs Lutheran East in a losing effort. If Singleton can get Columbus Academy back to the state title game, he should be firmly in the mix for Mr Basketball.

Nobody rocks UD Arena quite like Maysville and the Gator chomp has taken over the gym back-to-back seasons for the Panthers. After winning the state title last season, Maysville is hoping the encore performance is even better this year. Nichols puts up insane scoring numbers in the MVL and will look to make a third consecutive trip to Dayton to end his high school career.

The best big in OHSAA, Horton has taken massive steps since his freshman year of high school. At a team that won a regional title last year, Toledo St Francis is at it again and hoping to finish the job. Horton is a guy you can throw the ball on the block and watch him operate by scoring with either hand at the rim. Very impressive prospect who continues to get better, Horton will hope to be the first Miami (OH) commit to win Mr Basketball since current Brush Head Coach Chet Mason split the award in 2000.

Back in 2020 a Columbus star committed to Kent State won Mr Basketball as VonCameron Davis took home the award in the COVID shortened tournament season. Could Calloway follow what Davis path led? We shall see. Bishop Hartley has been knocking on the door of a regional championship and I think this could be the year where the Hawks make the final four and threaten for a push to UD Arena.

Grassroots teammates of Calloway, Mattucci has looked dominant in early season scrimmage action for a New Albany squad that thinks they can make it out of a crowded Division II region in central Ohio. Mattucci has improved his athleticism and is dunking on people and blocking shots. Those types of highlights could help his case if any voters can't make it out to many New Albany games this winter.
