USA October Minicamp: Saturday 2028 Standouts
In this article:
The USA Basketball October Minicamp continued on Saturday with intense action featuring some of the top prospects in the country. In this article I'll break down the 2028 standouts I caught on Saturday.
One of the smaller prospects in attendance this weekend, Craft is also one of the most skilled. Impossible to bother off the dribble, Craft has the ball on a string and can confidently attack using either hand. In the drills part of minicamp, Craft makes everything look easy as his on-ball skill is exceptional. Once Craft fills out his frame and adds muscle over the next few years, he'll be even tougher to stop offensively. In a loaded Atlanta 2028 class, Craft is making a name for himself on a national stage this weekend.

Playing in his home state, Duncan has been one of the standout performers all weekend. A strong athlete on the wing, Duncan has had a putback dunk that drew a large reaction from the crowd both days so far. Able to play above the rim when he gets a head of steam, Duncan was applying rim pressure as a slasher and cutter. Also knocking down some spot-up shots on the perimeter, Duncan has been one of the better performers in the Red group both days so far. Impressive weekend for the in-state stud who is number 1 in our Colorado rankings and making a push for the national rankings as well.

One of my favorite 2028 prospects to watch, Willis is an elite athlete and defender. Making some wow plays on both ends of the court, Willis can block shots, switch onto guards, finish acrobatically at the rim and run like a deer in transition. That type of versatility is exactly what you are looking for in a wing athlete who wants to play as fast as possible. A prospect I got to see on the UAA circuit this summer, Willis continues to shine against top talent from across the country.

The combination of impressive size, physicality, genes and motor gives you a very high floor and Dampier Jr is a prospect who just flat out impacts winning when he steps on the court. Getting some tough offensive rebounds to set up second chance buckets, Dampier Jr outworks a lot of other bigs in the paint. Add in some skill with his back to the basket as Dampier Jr has an excellent left hand on layups and hook shots. As one of the standout performers this weekend, Dampier Jr is showing why he's a top ranked national player in the 2028 class.

One of the more consistent players who have impacted the game each day, Sheppard has a high understanding of the game for a young forward. With soft hands, good touch around the rim and a knack for being in the right place at the right time for offensive rebounds and catching passes, Sheppard produces on the offensive end. As a play finisher off the pick and roll or sitting in the dunker spot, Sheppard has done a nice job of being efficient despite going up against taller and longer rim protectors all weekend. Another skill that has really shined is Sheppard's passing ability out of the post, a prospect you don't want to double because he will find the open man. Another top ranked 2028 prospect showing out this weekend, Sheppard has impressed me both days.

Another Atlanta prospect making waves on the national scene, Williams is one of the top wing shot makers in the country. When Williams feet are set, it's usually going in. During the 5 on 5 part of the minicamp games are divided into individual quarters and Williams hit a game-winning 3-pointer to win a quarter for his team. When Williams is cutting off the ball he's also dangerous as a play finisher. Hoping to see Williams continue to mature physically over these next few years as his skill and shot-making talent is exceptional for his age and height.
