About Erick
Expert Analysis
Brantley Green | Prep Hoops Scout
Erick is a beast. He showed why he is one of the best, if not the best, big man in the country for the class of 2028. Not only is he physically dominant, but he is also very athletic. He almost broke the rim every time he dunked it, and if he wasn’t blocking shots, he was altering, contesting, or making the shooter think twice. His touch and footwork around the rim were very impressive. The lefty big man still has room to grow, which is terrifying for everybody else.

The combination of impressive size, physicality, genes and motor gives you a very high floor and Dampier Jr is a prospect who just flat out impacts winning when he steps on the court. Getting some tough offensive rebounds to set up second chance buckets, Dampier Jr outworks a lot of other bigs in the paint. Add in some skill with his back to the basket as Dampier Jr has an excellent left hand on layups and hook shots. As one of the standout performers this weekend, Dampier Jr is showing why he’s a top ranked national player in the 2028 class.

Dampier’s father was a 16-year NBA vet and Dampier Jr is coming off a dominant 15 U season for Alabama Fusion finishing 4th in blocks and first in rebounding for his age group on the EYBL circuit. Already showcasing some intriguing offensive skill beyond just physical dominance, Dampier Jr has a moonball hook shot with his back to the basket and can make straight line attacks off the dribble as well.

7/16/25: Son of an NBA hooper, Erick Dampier Jr. is generally regarded as a Top 10 player in the entire nation. He looks all of 6-foot-9, potentially 6-foot-10. Unlike his father Dampier Jr. is moderately nimble and able to rebound outside of his area. Dampier Jr. might be the best defensive rebounder in the entire 2028 class. He does not move like a modern wing, rather a Karl Anthony-Towns-type. Fusion 15u gets him a lot of touches, both out high and around the rim. Facing the NY Rens they did not get him post feeds much, which was a waste.
