Heading into the high school season, I would like to highlight some players that I think are underrated or under recruited by colleges. These players are, in my opinion, either being overlooked by colleges at the level they could play for, or don't have enough schools at that level that are aware of the impact they could bring. Here's a look at seven wings in the Hampton Roads area that need more love from college coaches.

[player_tooltip player_id='2618830' first='Nick' last='McIntyre'] | 6'4” SF | Princess Anne

McIntyre has been very good at PA over the past few years, but this summer he showed he's ready to be one of the best players in Virginia Beach, and while he played well in the live periods he still doesn't have the amount of recruitment I think he deserves. The 6'4” wing brings a lot of traits that translate as he can be a “3 and d” archetype with his efficient catch-and-shoot and long arms to challenge shots and get deflections, he's grown into his body and is starting to play above the rim easily in transition, he can be a secondary ball handler and makes good decisions, and at the rate he's improving he's just scratching the surface with how good he can be.

[player_tooltip player_id='2788498' first='Jacarri' last='Jones'] | 6'3” SG | Lake Taylor

Jones had a breakout junior season at Lake Taylor last year, and as a late bloomer he's one that could be an absolute steal at the next level for the coach that puts in the work. The 6'3” off guard is a lights out shooter from deep with great form and a quick release, he can handle in transition and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands, he has good instincts and hands to get deflections on the defensive end, and he has a knack for making big plays when it matters the most.

[player_tooltip player_id='2612840' first='Abraham' last='Taft'] | 6'5” SF | Hampton

Taft is one of the most under recruited players in the state in my opinion, as he's been intriguing from the moment we saw him, and he's developed in a big way and still has room to improve moving forward. He's an exceptional athlete with long arms and explosive leaping ability to play above the rim and rebound on both ends of the floor, he has improved a lot as both a shooter and a ball handler to be able to make plays for himself and others, he is able to use his length and athleticism to guard multiple positions, and he brings great energy and a high motor as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2459375' first='Cason' last='Fitch'] | 6'2” SG | Oscar Smith

Fitch is one of those players that has got lost at times on such a talented Oscar Smith team over the past few years, but don't get it twisted he would be a star on a lesser team, and he has a lot of traits that would help a program moving forward. He is a well rounded two guard who makes shots at a good clip and doesn't force things on the offensive end, he is a good secondary ball handler and makes the right play consistently, he moves off the ball well and draws contact a lot to get to the line, and he is willing to take on whatever role to help his team win.

[player_tooltip player_id='2880089' first='Asher' last='Joyce'] | 6'4” SG | Hampton Christian

Joyce is one of those small school players that a lot of people don't quite know about, but if you watch the way he can score the basketball there's no doubt he could help a program at the next level. At 6'4” he has great size on the perimeter and is able to elevate and make tough shots with little space, he's a dead eye shooter from deep with a quick release and good range, he has good footwork and uses fakes to draw contact and get to the line, and he has good instincts and a high IQ on both ends too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2788506' first='Julius' last='Hymon'] | 6'3” SG | Green Run

Hymon was a huge reason for Green Run's state championship last season as he emerged as one of the top two way players in the 757, and now that their top players from the last few years have graduated he'll be the go-to guy this season. He can help impact a team immediately with his ability to guard the basketball and jump passing lanes, he competes on both ends of the floor and brings toughness every day, he can make shots off the catch and create in isolation off the bounce, and he's a good athlete with room to continue to improve as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2618835' first='Carter' last='Bullock'] | 6'3” SG | Catholic

Bullock is another very talented player that was hidden on a stacked Catholic team last year, and now that he's the most experienced returner it wouldn't shock me if he has a huge senior season and sees his recruitment pick up throughout the year. The 6'3” lefty impacts the game in a lot of ways including his athleticism and speed in the open floor where he can get to the rim and finish at or above it, he can hit tough shots in the midrange and from deep off the bounce, he is a good defender and has good instincts, and he can get hot quickly and fill it up in bunches.
