Newark has consistently produced college talent and Brooks seems like the next guard to come through their system and emerge as one of the best in central Ohio for his grade. Able to knock down 3-point shots at a high rate, bring the Newark toughness defensively and take care of the basketball, small college programs are going to love watching Brooks when they start to prioritize the 2027 class. Brooks standout performances with Newark in June helped earn him a debut in our rankings.

One of the few 2027 prospects with a small college offer, Gray was offered by Lourdes in June as their staff has done an excellent job keeping some of the top Toledo talent. Gray is one of the better guards in northwest Ohio from his class and can be seen at the Toledo Top 64 in the Fall. Gray impressed this summer with both Perrysburg and Rice Basketball Academy 16 U. I like how in control Gray is on the ball, able to direct the offense while also being able to take over a game as a scorer when needed.

A new name for New Albany, Martin comes over from Zanesville where Martin was named to an All-Ohio team as a Sophomore. Martin will be under a brighter microscope this season with New Albany, one of the top teams in the OCC. Martin impressed me with his quick first step, ability to play in transition and straight line attacks off the dribble. Excited to continue to see how Martin develops as a player over these next few seasons, he'll receive excellent coaching from Columbus legend Tim Casey who won his 500th career game in 2024.

A prospect who stood out at our freshman camp a while back, Capers has been on our radar for a while and really emerged on the scene with Brookside last winter. A talented scoring guard, Capers can get hot from downtown or finish off two feet in the paint. This scoring ability allowed Capers to explode for multiple 30+ point games last season and I'd expect more of the same next season with another year of development both physically and skill wise.

Another prospect at a new school this season, Theobalds was at Rossford last season and will now be at Toledo St John's for his Junior season. An elite shooter from the perimeter, few players can get hot as quickly as Theobalds can. A teammate with Gray for Rice Basketball Academy 16 U, this guard duo proved deadly for opposition all summer. If Theobalds can impact the game without scoring the basketball, he could be a massive addition for a Toledo St John's squad that should have high hopes to contend in the Detroit Catholic League this season.

The third transfer of the article, Paz was a prospect I saw this June with Marion Harding and will now attend Shelby. Paz is a quick slashing guard who is at his best when he is attacking downhill with the ball in his hands. On a Shelby team that's had a bunch of top talent for their region, Paz should fit in well with their talented group of multi-sport athletes. With a more up-tempo style of play than a lot of their conference rivals, Shelby could be a good fit for Paz on the court as he enters his Junior season as a potential breakout candidate.
