Here is a recap of the Top 5 Sophomores from Sunday's Prep Hoops Sophomore ID Camp.

[player_tooltip player_id='2531961' first='Amarion' last='Smith-Holley'] Peoria Richwoods 2028

It's only been a few months since the summer ended and Smith-Holley is already showing added strengths to his game. Major Bounce! It was one thing to be a quick and explosive guard who could elevate over guys to score. A huge part of his game is getting in the lane and finishing plays off two feet or getting fouled in the process, but now he's playing above the rim, catching lobs, and soaring with one-handed flushes off fastbreaks. His newfound bounce adds to his entertainment value and going into his second year it makes him a must-see prospect this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194655' first='Braydon' last='Porter'] Yorkville 2028

While watching Porter play for a third straight weekend I can only come up with a second nickname for him. Noodles is the first but Manboy comes to mind when watching him play. Braydon plays with a lot of power and force around the basket that at times he seems like a man trapped in a boy's body. Some of his dunks and athletic maneuvers just clear a path for him because nobody wants to be put on a poster. He's improved his jump shot and tightened up his handles some so that coaches will see this upcoming season why he's a top 5 player in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2542412' first='Chase' last='Kasten'] Normal Community 2028

Kasten is an athletic forward who got right to work in the 3 on 3 games and that carried over to the live 5 on 5 action. At 6'5 he added pressure early by attacking the rim using athleticism to score near the basket. Up and under moves and quick second jumps to follow up missed shots were appetizers. Once he started to cook he banged in a couple of threes to show his range. Chase finished it off with a couple of dunks in the open court. Kasten is a player who could be knocking close to the top 5 of the class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2532003' first='Joey' last='Jakstys'] Yorkville 2028

As a long and agile 6'8 it was assumed early on that like his older brother Jason he would be a terrific low-post player. Well he is good in the post but we watched him again and he has a good skillset and is comfortable enough with his handle so he may be a big wing. He drives to the basket very well and looks comfortable when attempting maneuvers and trying to score. From the perimeter his shots were on target and he has the ability to develop a mid-range shot also. Joey and Braydon will develop into one of the best young 1 to 2 combinations in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='2532014' first='Logan' last='Brown'] St. Laurence 2028

Logan is a versatile wing player who put some much added pressure on some of the top players at the event. One of the best attributes to his game is how hard he runs the floor with his coordination to catch passes while on a full sprint and finish is top tier. Brown has solid shooting mechanics but is more of a slasher than a catch and shoot guy. On defense, he is one of the few players who can switch to any type of player and hold his own. Logan is part of a very deep St. Laurence squad that could be a state contender in the near future.
