The Tune Up: More Skilled Guards

Prep Hoops Illinois was in Batavia, IL on Saturday and Sunday at The Tune Up. The Prep Hoops Circuit was back in action for a shortened 4th of July Weekend and teams took the court from across the Midwest. I had the opportunity to watch teams compete in the classes of 2029 - 2031 with a few games from the class of 2027. In the previous article, we took a look specifically at combo guards from the class of 2031. Let's go ahead now and breakdown a handful of more older guards that we had the chance to see perform.    Solid attacker in the full court transition phase. Liked to get off to the races early when securing a D Board. Had a couple coast to coast scores off own rebounds in last game of day on Saturday. Drove it and got to the charity a couple times as well. Plays competitively throughout.     Watched teams 2nd game of morning session on Saturday. Solid ball handler with a toughness demeanor. Got into rhythm off the bounce right away to start and did not let up the rest of the way. Finished with multiple runners in the lane over size. Knocked it down from range smoothly as well. Changed speeds to create space and then made his move. Helped team to undefeated weekend.     Put on a highlight reel in last game of weekend on Sunday. A real live shooting clinic. Had 33 within flow of offense and was in rhythm from all angles. Hit 4 3's, 9 deuces either off the bounce or catch from short or mid-range, and did not miss from the charity stripe. Shot was pure the whole game. Played hard diving for loose balls out of bounce and overall had a hustle and grit demeanor. A joy to watch compete.     Quick trigger release. Handles it with confidence as another ball handler on skilled overall team. Can mix it up going off the bounce on his shot. Shooting skills are sufficient and is comfortable in different areas of the floor. Overall had a positive effect on both games Saturday helping team to a 2-0 start to tourney.     Will spot up from 3 with distance. Shot form looks pure. Can burst on a first step with or without the ball. Knows how to space away for shooting opportunities away from the ball. Made a hard cut in the lane for an easy bucket off EOB. Plays overall poised and selfless to help team go 4-0 on weekend.
