On Saturday, July 26th, I attended Brandeis University's Jean Bain Elite Camp at their gym in Waltham, MA. There were about 40 kids in attendance, and I'll be having a first and second team from the camp.

As always, it's difficult to watch every kid at every moment, but these are the guys that I came away the most impressed with -- there are others I was impressed with, too.

Below is the Brandeis Elite Camp first team.

McDonald was probably the best player at Brandeis camp and really impressed with his cerebral point guard play throughout the day. The 6-foot floor general is super quick off the dribble and has a really explosive first step, which he uses to blow by defenders effortlessly. He has a deep bag of finishing moves at the rim -- off both one foot and two -- and he does a great job staying under control to make the simple play for his teammates. He can also hit the mid range and three ball with very solid consistency. He'll be a key player for Pomfret this coming season and should find a relatively high D3 fit when the time comes.

Dudley was one of the better athletes present at Brandeis and consistently used his big body and physicality to move defenders off their spot. On drives to the rim, he keeps his line very well and is able to shuck defenders off of him like it's nothing, though he could work on improving his touch at the rim. He's a capable three point shooter, but not amazing. Most impressive is his passing ability; he always makes the right read and has so much pace on his passes to teammates, so he's a super effective ball mover and role guy. He should get good minutes this year for Dexter Southfield and will find a D3 fit somewhere after that.

Huff is an interesting long term prospect as a result of his combination of size and skill. He's 6-foot-3 but super long, and he has a really solid handle. He can get by his initial defender with quickness and speed and then has a nice bag of finishing moves at the hoop and high touch off the rim. He also made a ton of threes and has a nice shot. Most notable was his ability to fly down the court on offense and get back on defense; he's in excellent condition and works his behind off to run the floor. The rising junior will certainly find a D3 fit in a couple years, perhaps at a high level if he continues to grow and improve.

Juliana blew by people consistently throughout the day and could not be stopped getting to his left hand. Even though he's a righty, he seems more confident finishing with his southpaw and had a variety of really nice high touch and quick finishes at the hoop. He also attacks closeouts quite decisively and effectively, making him a nice off-ball player. The shooting is solid from three, but he needs to work on getting his release a bit quicker. I would imagine Juliana finds a mid D3 fit after this season at the Hun School of Princeton.

Hyman was one of the better shooters at Brandeis and was essentially feeling it from three for the entire day -- I saw him miss very few shots. He has a super quick release and gets his shot off whenever he wants --- despite being an undersized guard --- because he has good misdirection and throws people off with his eyes and jab step game. When the defense overplays his three-point shot, he does a good job attacking closeouts and throws really nice live-dribble one-handed passes with both hands. Definite D3 guy.
