Chaska Makes Run

One of the more impressive results we saw today was Chaska making the finals of the biggest varsity bracket before losing to defending North Dakota big school champion Bismark Century (a state champ that returns their top 11 guys). When we looked on, Chaska was playing without top returning players [player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] which makes their wins over Edina and Belle Plaine (who both seemed to have their best players) even more impressive.

The Hawks lost Tray Lenzen to college basketball but they have Forrest back (one of the best lead guards in his class) as well as their next three leading scorers (meaning four of their top six overall). Junior to be [player_tooltip player_id='2126143' first='Kalin' last='Jochum'] is a baseball star but he's also a junior-to-be is a good hooper that was the fourth leading scorer. Six-foot-3 [player_tooltip player_id='2839785' first='Evan' last='Atkinson'] is a senior to be who is also back as is 2027 guard [player_tooltip player_id='2113031' first='Eli' last='Herzog'], and both of them scored 3-4 times a game last year as well.

Cronin is a D1 Prospect

Six-foot-7 junior to be [player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] seems to be on the verge of a breakout moment or a breakout season or a breakout performance. This is a 6'7 wing that was attacking Chanhassen guards (not bigs, they had to defend other Edina players with size that aren't as quick) and beating them off the dribble regularly. Cronin had three explosive dunks today but also showed the range to hit a couple threes, and he scored at the rim against the Chan size that helped to his attack.

Cronin scored 13-14 a game as a sophomore last year and he's played well for the [program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota'] 16u team. There has been some injuries that Cronin has had to deal with took him off the court here and there but Cronin has been on the court consistently for the entirety of his sophomore year and he's played very well. Keep an eye on Cronin, the potential is there at a higher level than I think people are aware of.

Royal Bucket Getter

2026 senior-to-be [player_tooltip player_id='1560776' first='Isaac' last='Ostlie'] of Watertown-Mayer led the Royals in scoring as a junior and the team had a solid 16-win season. With several players graduating more of the scoring load will fall to Ostlie and based on what we saw today he looks ready to handle it.

The 6'2/6'3 guard went at a good Shiloh Christian team from North Dakota and scored 20 points on 9 of 18 shooting including two threes and a nasty step-back make off a ball fake that was picture perfect. Ostlie scored about 14-15 a game last year and he has a chance to be a 20ppg guy as a senior.

Quick Hitters

[player_tooltip player_id='1961315' first='Gus' last='Carpenter'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2430772' first='Mason' last='Mohs'] averaged double figure numbers last year (at ten a game) and both played well today. They are six of the guys that were six of the top seven players on the team last season. Gus rebounded, he handled, he defended, and he scored today while Mohs played the active role totaling in double figures. Between these two, Cronin, [player_tooltip player_id='2136339' first='Adryan' last='Miller'] who has been very good this off-season, 6'8 big Ollie Flick who grabbed nine boards today in the game I watched, and [player_tooltip player_id='2834053' first='Will' last='Newburg'] who hit three threes against Chan, this is a team that has more experience and potential than we at first realized.

Chanhassen wing Jahmion White-Grant scored 16 against Edina getting to the rim regularly and showing a toughness to finish against all the Edina matured length.

[player_tooltip player_id='2140561' first='Benett' last='Barger'] of Chanhassen has one of the better mid-range touches I have seen this spring/summer and that mid-range touch at 6'5 was tough for a long Edina line-up to get a hand to.
