Eye Catching Guards – Buckeye Classic

He realized quickly in the game the opposing team was not getting back in transition and Ahrens continued to expose this by consistently putting pressure on the rim. He showed a great ability to finish around the rim in multiple different ways. He showed good bounce twice with a dunk and in the half-court dunk attempt in traffic. He gets to his spot on the floor and does work. Showed the ability to get buckets and kick them out when needed. He is a great point guard because of his size and ability to see the court. He does a great job of pushing the pace with the pass. The game just seemed slow for him. He plays a good controlled smooth pace. Great size for a guard, has great length, and knows how to use his skills. A lot of young players have skills but do not know how to contain them and use them right. He is a good but not great athlete but it doesn't matter because he still gets buckets. He can get to the rim consistently and really shines in transition. Finishes in traffic well. He has a really good first step in the half-court and gets on the defender's hip quick. He knocked down shots from deep as well. He plays his tail off on defense and makes the opposing guard's job extremely difficult. In the second game, the game started to turn a little chippy and physical and you could see this excited James. He wanted to play with the contact. He showed a competitive edge. Then offensively he was a great court general. He understands he needs to be a pass-first point guard for this squad. He just looks the part of a guard. He has wide shoulders and a great wingspan. You then see his feel for the game. He knows how to get the ball to teammates in the right spot. He is an unselfish player and is ready to pass up and good for a great shot. He is good in transition because he can score on the rim well but if you commit too much it's an assist. He showed an ability to create shots for himself as well in the half-court.
