— Aberdeen, SD

Prep Hoops Dakotas will look at some key standouts from the four advancing teams at the State B's in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Those four teams were Castlewood, Viborg-Hurley, St. Mary's, and Wessington Springs. Plenty of talent to talk about.

Laue has been the most dominant player and a matchup nightmare for opposing teams in the state B's. He's affecting both sides of the ball as an interior scorer and shot-affecting and shot-blocking force on D. Highly efficient scoring at the hoop and pulling down key rebounds for Castlewood to secure possession of the ball. Two double-doubles in as many games for Laue. He's signed with DII University of Sioux Falls.

Game 1 vs Lyman - 12 points (5-7 FG) - 11 rebounds - 3 blocks - 27 minutes

Game 2 vs Wessington Springs - 19 points (8-10 FG) - 13 rebounds - 2 blocks - 29 minutes

Keszler has seen his stock rise drastically in the state B's and has taken things to another level in the first two days of the state B tournament. He's playing a confident and free-flowing game, showing an impressive playmaking and shot-making arsenal. His ball-handling and creation with his handle has been eye-popping. He's been easily getting himself space and rising high for knockdown jumpers. Keszler is showing a ton of athletic pop. His stock has risen in a big way and his new upcoming ranking will reflect that. I think he's proven to be a top 30 2025 prospect and a next-level scoring point guard.

Game 1 vs Lyman - 13 points (5-10 FG) (1-1 3FG) - 4 rebounds - 5 assists - 22 minutes

Game 2 vs Wessington Springs - 17 points (6-14 FG) (1-1 3FG) - 5 assists - 31 minutes

Viborg-Hurley is in the championship game, and a lot of that has to do with how Hanson performed versus St. Mary's. Obviously, he's a factor in the paint and near the rim, but he also hit some difficult midrange fall-away jumpers. He played through contact on multiple occasions. Had some key rebounds late in the St. Mary's game.

Game 1 vs Freeman — 9 points (4-9 FG) - 2 rebounds - 4 assists - 1 steal - 24 minutes

Game 2 vs St. Mary's — 20 points (9-15 FG) - 8 rebounds - 1 assist - 1 steal - 30 minutes

Admittedly, I moved Schroedermeier too far back in the 2026 rankings. He's looking very strong physically with an impressive and muscular frame. I think I undersold his defensive and lockdown ability. Elite movement and athletic pop off the ground. He's been in attack mode at the state tournament and is looking explosive and extremely quick in transition, taking it at opponents at the rim.

Game 1 vs Freeman — 21 points (9-15 FG) (1-1 3FG) - 3 rebounds - 1 assist 1 steal - 19 minutes

Game 2 vs St. Mary's — 6 points (2-4 FG) - 4 rebounds - 5 assists - 1 steal - 27 minutes

Niederbaumer has had a stock-rising Senior season and his ranking will need to be adjusted for the better. He's showing drastically improved skills with the ball and can handle the ball at a much higher level. His three is improved and he hit some big threes against St. Mary's to advance to the championship game. Looks very agile and runs very well for a lengthy 6'6” prospect. Owen had a massive block at the rim against St. Mary's with about 1:20 left in the game that led into a Viborg-Hurley possession.

Game 1 vs Freeeman — 20 points (7-7 FG) (4-4 3FG) - 6 rebounds - 3 assists - 1 block - 2 steals - 24 minutes

Game 2 vs St. Mary's — 11 points (4-9 FG) (3-7 3FG) - 6 rebounds - 1 assist - 1 block - 2 steals - 27 minutes

Beckman showed is three-point ability and endless range versus Viborg-Hurley. He carried the St. Mary's offense with contested step-back threes and DEEP range threes. I think it's him or [player_tooltip player_id='1406985' first='Logan' last='Collette'] as the top three-point shooters in the state, with Beckman a little more self-creation as a three-point shooter. He broke the St. Mary's school record for threes made in a season, and currently sits at 87 makes.

Game 1 vs Aberdeen Christian — 21 points (8-16 FG) (2-7 3FG) - 6 rebounds - 5 assists - 1 block - 3 steals - 29 minutes

Game 2 vs Viborg-Hurley — 25 points - (8-18 FG) (5-13 3FG) - 8 rebounds - 3 assists - 3 steals - 31 minutes

Flowers is an absolute workhorse. He shows up with 100% effort every game. He's a prospect that you wish were 3-4 inches taller because he would be a major recruit with his installed motor. He ran into a tough matchup with Castewood's Laue who stands at 6'9”. Flowers didn't backdown, but Laue's size was a little too much when he got deep into the paint and near the hoop.

Game 1 vs Wall — 24 points (10-14 FG) - 16 rebounds - 1 block

Game 2 vs Castlewood — 15 points (6-14 FG) - 5 rebounds - 2 assists - 2 blocks - 3 steals - 28 minutes

Ryder has shown more offensive ability than I realized he had. He's able to go off the dribble with a midrange pull-up game. An elite mover and athlete on the court that translates to both sides of the ball. He's a Black Hills State University football signee.

Game 1 vs Wall — 19 points (5-10 FG) (8-10 FT) - 11 rebounds - 3 assists

Game 2 vs Castlewood — 13 points (6-19 FG) - 11 rebounds - 2 assists - 2 steals - 30 minutes

The South Dakota State University football signee looks like a man amongst boys out there — other than in a few cases. He showed his dominance against Aberdeen Christian, as they couldn't handle his shear size and athleticism. He ran into a major matchup against 6'7” Nick Hanson and Viborg-Hurley in the next round.

Game 1 vs Aberdeen Christian — 18 points (7-13 FG) - 9 rebounds - 1 assist - 2 blocks - 2 steals - 27 minutes

Game 2 vs Viborg-Hurley — 7 points - 5 rebounds - 1 assist - 4 blocks - 2 steals - 32 minutes

Kamden is a Sophomore starting guard for Castlewood, playing alongside his brother Jamison. He's a true 6'3” and he's impressed me with his play in the first two games of the state tournament. The big stage has not affected him and he's played clean and impactful. Good overall size for a guard, playing a composed game where he can still make plays and his offensive game and his ability needs to be accounted for.

Game 1 vs Lyman - 10 points (4-8 FG) (1-2 3FG) - 3 rebounds - 4 assists - 2 steals - 26 minutes

Game 2 vs Wessington Springs - 9 points (4-9 FG) - 6 rebounds - 3 assists - 2 steals

Bass is key to Castlewood's success. He's got a good overall size and athletic cominbination. He can kind of play all over the place in multiple positions, including being a threat from three when he has time and space. Looked quick and explosive in transition. A great leaper that can play and compete at the rim.

Game 1 vs Lyman - 5 points (2-7 FG) - 7 rebounds - 1 block - 27 minutes

Game 3 vs Wessington Springs — 8 points (3-5 FG) (2-3 3FG) - 4 rebounds - 3 assists - 2 blocks - 1 steal - 31 minutes

It's long overdue that we give Mebius a mention, as he's had an impactful Senior season for Wessington Springs. I have yet to see the game against Wall, but he put in 20 points. I think we'll mention him again when we update the 2025 rankings one last time.

Game 1 vs Wall — 20 points - (8-11 FG) (1-2 3FG) - 1 assist - 1 block - 1 steal

Game 2 vs Castlewood - 7 points (3-6 FG) - 2 rebounds - 2 assists

Hanson runs the show from the point guard position for St. Mary's. He showed some offensive firepower, finishing with 15 points and making two threes in the opening round win over Aberdeen Christian. A good handle on the ball and he created some of his own offense by going off the dribble for pull-up makes. Shot the three-ball well.

Game 1 vs Aberdeen Christian — 15 points (6-12 FG) (2-3 3FG) - 3 rebounds - 3 assists - 1 steal - 29 minutes

Game 2 vs St. Mary's — 7 points (3-7 FG) - 5 assists - 3 steals
