I was at Mount Vernon Nazarene for Division 5 Central 1 and 2 District Finals doubleheaders. Columbus Academy remained undefeated and added a district championship to their historical season after a 30-point win over Fairbanks. Followed by Bishop Ready beating Africentric 52-43. This article is the standout from these two games.

Falkenhain was phenomenal. He showed to be a true all-around basketball player. He got going in transition but had some sneaky bounce and finishing at the rim. Then they started to help off of him in the half court and he made them pay. He knocked down multiple 3s. He showed great touch in the paint. I loved the leadership he showed today. He is consistently talking to his teammates. Falkenhain has a high basketball IQ. He plays winning basketball. He plays hard on both ends and impressed me today with his defense. He provided great on-ball pressure.

Schaffer played the way you would want your senior leader to play in this one. He made the right decisions with the ball in his hands. He did not score 30+ but he didn't need to. He did what was needed to win. In a game, Ready was trying to get sped up when Schaffer hands the ball there was a sense of calmness and trust. He has a good IQ for the game, and it shows in how he plays. He had a nice putback dunk in the first half that gave Ready their first spark of momentum of the game. He never settled for the three balls. Always put pressure on the rim.

Ivery is one of the best role players you will find in the state. He has settled into his role nicely for the Vikings and excels. He is a great defender, on and off the ball, because of his length and athleticism. He is a player you want to run a press with because he will be disruptive. He was great in transition. He is great at running the floor and exploding to the rim. He gets to the free throw line and shows off an improved jump shot. Ivery never forced anything and did a great job of not settling. He knew that he could not be stopped if he drove it to the rim.

Larger played huge in the Bishop Ready district finals win. When Bishop Ready was struggling to score he came up big with his shooting. He finished with 12 points on four 3s. Three of them came in the first half and gave Ready a lot of momentum that was unsurmountable to overcome. He has good size and length that allows him to space the floor well and get his shot off. High confidence.

Gray is a nice scorer. Plain and simple this kid gets buckets. He is a big, bodied guard who can get to the rim whenever he wants. He is a physical driver that when he is even with you it's over. He bumps into you to give him space to finish, or you end up fouling him. He had multiple drives to the rim and tough finishes for Africentric. He is going to be a big-time returner player for them next year.

Smith is a player I would want on my team yesterday. He is such a versatile player on the defensive end and knows his role offensively. His length and athleticism allow him to guard all five positions on the floor. He is an explosive athlete. On the offensive end, he is an effective finisher around the rim because he plays above it. He can be at the dunker spot at the next level. He is a good cutter.
